I will say this now, and let it be recorded. I absolutely love the Pf Tek. Yeah, it may yield less, but now that all my cakes are fruiting, I can clearly see that going mss is not worth it spawning in bulk. Some cakes just took their sweet time, especially one of them, which started to puff up, NOT pin, just today, after...23 days, so I can imagine how I would have felt if I had 4-5 cakes tied up in a single shoebox/tub and they took so long.

Aren't those cakes fun?
Update on my perlite-BRF experiment: Its been one week since I inoculated my 4 test jars and so far, the only growth i see in the perlite-BRF mix are small dots of orange lipstick mold. It would appear from my one small experiment that perlite cannot replace vermiculite in the recipe. However, perlite seems to be a decent replacement/alternative to the top air filter layer of vermiculite. I might even argue that it could be better than vermiculite since its already so fine in dust and powder, it likely blocks tiny mold spores like trich quite easily. So if a person is low on vermiculite, using perlite for just the top air filtering layer seems like a viable alternative option.

It works!

I have germination on my perlite-BRF mixture. Its a bit hard to see but theres mycelium growing outward in the center part of my photo.
I only had one jar out of 4 in just one spot germinate so it seems to be a poor substrate but it can work
I think maybe using less BRF by volume would help with germination. More experiments are needed

Well the AMsterdam growkits still seem to work and those crazies put perlite into their substrates so it is definately not impossible although i would go with verm plus perlite mixed in. Og course mycelium can form on even cardboard but I would go for 50 50 Verm/Perlite and go from there. Good work brah!

If I wanted to use this tek but only have agar, would i be best to make a batch of LC from agar and then inoculate with this?
Also I assume using the plastic containers can be used with the steamer option and does not need to be PCd?
Why is it we wrap jars in tin foil but not the containers? It say’s because of condensation but what does this mean? Why do we use foil in the first place?
