What do we think of these grain jars?

Would love some more eyeballs on these guys.
PE on agar. My grain was prepped with RR rye tek no issues. This is about 2 weeks in? It took off and within like 3 days the jars were fully covered in faint non-rhizomorphic growth but seemed too soon to me. The PE was so slow to grow on agar. Shook, let it go and what came back was puffy white but not uniform (here and there clusters). Wish I could tell you why but I shook a second time like 3 days ago (I know! But also read shaking more than once can show how weakened the myc are or not by possible contams?)
It’s slow to come back and today started to see a pool of what looks like metabolites on the bottoms and beads throughout. No clear contams I can spy though.
My real worry was even though my SAB technique is solid, it’s apparently not. The agar I cut from popped up with a spot of contam a few days after cutting so it got me nervous whatever that was weaseled its way in my jars. First PE grow on grain (did cakes previously) and I know it was slower and reacted differently than other varieties I’ve tried so it was harder to know what was going on. What do y’all think?

Contams are sneaky af. I'd probably just toss those and start again if those were my jars.
I usually go to at least T3 just to make sure what I'm working with is clean.
Sorry for your loss. It happens to us all from time to time though.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I suspected as much. I have another plate I’m keeping an eye on then I’ll cook up some fresh rye and try again.

If you had faint growth that colonized the whole jar in three days I'd say it's not cube mycelium.

I thought that too tbh. I’ll snap a pic of the agar plate when I’m home but it was a pain trying to get the PE plates to even start growing (it was spores I collected with a swab from the last PE grow I did) so I wondered if I happened to catch some similar looking white mold or something and not get the myc spores to grow.

I transferred to this plate about 4 days ago from the plate I cut my wedges from (need to mix up new agar. This was my last plate and had condensation building up before I used it.)

Update on these guys. I agreed the jars were seeming suspect but kept em going more as a science experiment to see what came from it. Lots of metabolites (bout an inch+ high when not tipped like in pic) but consistent fuzzy white throughout jars. I cracked a jar and smelled and it’s earthy. Not quite the mushroom smell I’ve come to look for but not bad either? Took a piece stuck to the lid off and hit it with some peroxide (not sure how true it is mold makes peroxide fizz is but gave it a go) and no fizzing at all. What do yall think I have here? Learning after things don’t go as planned is half the fun of mycology for me.

It still looks weird but you might get lucky.
Spawn em for science! Top fruiting it is probably a better way to go if you just wanted to get some genetics back that you could clone to agar.

Good luck and keep us updated on the progression!

I’d guess some sort of mild bacteria or yeast type thing was in there and now the mycelium has grown over it.
You might get a flush off it, I’ve spawned some sketchy jars before that put out a solid flush then went moldy immediately.
I’ve never seen something that was faint white and fast enough to cover the jar in 3 days before, but I have had a few yeast contaminations and they looked terrible but didn’t seem to affect anything at all. Jars colonized right over it and tubs went like normal.

Most recent pics: There is mold in the second jar. You can see the blue-green spot in the center where it's stressed from it.
First jar is bacterial at least, you've got spotty and incomplete colonization along with a hell of a lot of sweat / excess moisture.
If you don't see any of the green patches in the first jar you could try to top fruit it by putting coir on top and misting when it looks dry.

Just peeked at that jar and it was the reflection from my window on the jar when I took the pic. Not seeing any mold thankfully.
Ok, I’ll give em a go and see if anything fruits. I’ll report back. Thanks guys!

Its not a reflection. You have mold in the second jar.

Uhm. Yeah I can still see the mold.

There is still a blue hue in the bottom right and now i see distinct speckle white dots of mold on the less colonized grain.
Turn the jar slight counter clockwise and take another pic.

Im so sorry. I meant rotated slightly on its vertical axis as if we're kind looking at the grain from a different angle. Not the same angle rotated around depth axis.
