Hay Stretcher / Alfalfa / Soy Bean Hull Pellets

Can't seem to source Soy Bean Hull Pellets anywhere. Like Hardwood Fuel Pellets at 7$ a bag, buying the smoker pellets for 50$ a bag makes turning a profit impossible, luckily, my local stores are carrying the HWF Pellets.
So it seems I have 2 choices:
- Alfalfa Hay Pellet
- Hay Stretcher Horse Feed Pellets
Has anyone experimented with the above?
Shiitake, King Oyster, Lion's Mane, Golden/Pink/Blue/Phoenix Oyster Maitake/ Pioppino -- these are some of the gourmets I'd like to try on the 'Master's Mix' "bootleg" choices from above. 50/50 Hardwood Fuel pellets and Alfalfa or something else.
I'm having no luck with sourcing any type of bran for a reasonable price either. HWFP with Wheat or Rice bran isn't looking like an option either.
Edit;
I would like to add another question about Limestone. Searching calcium carbonate seems to hit Limestone everywhere in bulk. Looking more into it, it's composed of both CaCO3 and CaMg(CO3)2 - Is this a viable supplement?
**I'm killing my own post here, more research seems Fine-Soft Ground White Limestone is 99% CaCO3.
Same question about Gypsum, viable supplement in Gourmets?

I bit the bullet and ordered 80lbs. of Soy Bean Hull Pellets from wal - mart. Looks like their online store sources it from Mushroom Media Online. Includes shipping. 50$ and change bag.
Looks like there's a site for Bulk shipments, Feedforless. com looks promising. shooting them an email, will report back for others seeking this info

$1/lb is expensive. If you order by the pallet it'll go down to less than half that.

Well, I tell myself, nothing about this small-scale trial run is going to be cost effective. But I can't produce a product if I never buy the materials. I have been too full of doubt for too long to give it a shot; no longer is this the case.

Worth the money to give it a shot. Even at $1/lb you would be able to turn a profit. Definitely will let you get your hands dirty and grow some mushrooms.
How big of a trial run are you planning?

Thank you for the encouragement. Now I go refresh my knowledge on oyster spores. Which species I can fruit indoors without a negative filtration system.

Same situation here - soy hull pellets not readily available.
I've used alfalfa pellets extensively. $19-$21 a bag IIRC from TSC. I've never used masters mix, but my results seemed comparable to what can be expected of masters mix.
If you compare the analysis of soy hull pellets with alfalfa, they are comparable.

I bought 120lbs. of alfalfa pellets today and I will be trying them. I've also received my super expensive Soybean Hull Pellets too. I'm not very good at running tests. However, I'll do my best to keep conditions similar and I'll report back anything I learn.
father_fungi, I'll take your word for it, you are right, they are very similar on the analysis info. I will be very happy if I get similar fruits from each. I'm sure many others who share the struggle of finding soy hulls will too. 51$ a bag is outrageous, and I'm not buying master's mix readymade either, all that shits marked way up and I truly hate that shit. It so prevalent these days. Everything from filter patch bags to grain is sold in smaller quantities at a huge markup.

I just had to pay $450 for a ton of soybean hulls. Most I've ever had to pay. They have been on the rise recently but a dollar a lb is insane

Did that include delivery or can you pick up local? I just paid about the same but another $450 in delivery.

A pallet that is stacked about 4' tall. Maybe like a 4' cube. I have a very limited grow space but can always make room for a ton of soy.

If my math is correct 450$ for 2,000lbs. works out like .22¢ per pound of Soy Hull Pellets.
Alfalfa pellets at 25$ per 40lbs, which is .62¢ per pound.
I'd like to use Soy hulls if I can acquire them at that price. I already bought both so I hope my fruiting room conditions can stay even while the not-so-good experiment takes place. I'll try to keep as many things as I can the same while testing 50/50 HWFP/SBHP to 50/50 HWFP/Alfalfa Pellets.
I sure hope the results are very similar. Just cause the Alfalfa is already here and I bet if I bought it by the ton, they might give me a comparable discount as the SBHP, idk though we'll see.
All my Liquid cultures are just now showing growth on grain. I suspect it'll be anywhere from 3-5 weeks before I have anything even in the fruiting chamber.
