I noticed these growing in my neighbor's big pile of horse dung over the fence, so unfortunately the best photos I could get were from across the fence.  May not be able to get a clear ID because of that, but maybe some ideas? Northern California

Habitat:
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.

Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.

Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

Spore print color:
Very important!

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

I’m thinking something similar to Coprinopsis nivea

The more I look the more I see Panaeolus papilionaceus

Thank you for your input.  Maybe I can figure out how to acquire some for better pictures.

Looks like Panaeolus antillarum, which is rare in California.

Another option is Panaeolus semiovatus.

Looks like they matured.  Here they are now.  The close-up pictures were just on my side of the fence.  Not sure if they were the same.

1) Pholiota foedata
2) Panaeolus semiovatus

Pholiota foedata is almost completely unknown, but according to recent DNA barcoding results it is the most common Pholiota in California.  12 out of 53 CA Pholiota sequences are this species.
