Got a bunch on the go RN. Still on Benebel Wens 'I Ching:The Oracle' & Stephen Karchers 'Total I Ching'. Together with the OG Wilhelm these are blasting the I Ching wide open for me. A lot to work with and the sort of books that you gotta soak in loooong term.
First; 'Radical Mycology'- can't recommend this one enough! By FAR the most comprehensive book on fungi that I own/ have seen. The scope of it is massive, without being overbearing in style. Peter McCoy suggests reading it cover to cover first time around, which I'm doing, but flicking through it I can't wait to get my teeth into some of the later sections. Shroomery gets a shout out in the first few pages, I reckon the author 100% has an account on here.
Next 'Entangled Life'. For some reason I resisted the hype til a fellow shroomerite told me where I could pick this up local for £5. Dank. More of a "story book" than Radical Mycology, Merlin Sheldrake blends mycological teachings with enthralling excerpts of his field studies, philosophical musings about the Fungal Kingdom along with other related insights around botany, psychedelics, ecology and much more. Nearly done, really enjoying it. So easy to read and I even had the audiobook on for a bit tripping last night when my eyes said no to words. Merlins low drawl was pitched so low and slow that I had to check I was listening on 1X speed- still- revisiting the chapter on how roots, hyphae & bacteria coexist and evolve was taking me away.
Finally; 'Compassion in action' by Ram Dass & Mirabai Bush. As a massive Ram D fan, I was really dissapointed by his half of this (disjointed) book. Not to slam it too much but besides the same old, the stuff he decided to include felt weirdly braggy and uninspired by anything but himself. Everyone is human- in fact his willingness/ openness around being human first and foremost is, IMO, a big part of the appeal Ram Dass holds amidst many questionable figures exisiting on the intersection of spirituality and popular culture but this time...
Mirabai's section; which I would gladly have just gotten as a thinner, seperate book, is a lot more of what I anticipated overall. It's open and honest, with relatable accounts & insights around what including service in your life could look like for you- and what it looks like for her. It's inspirational & great food for though- worth checking out but don't get your hopes up for the first half. Phew, feel like I've just wrote a book of my own. Happy reading everyone!
