that first pic is currently ideal for spores. but can also wait for the other block to reach that stage.

best way to get spores for LM is to put a bag around it, not quite the same as having a cap to work with.

There was a bunch of spores on that black electrical tape I had wrapped around the top of the bag so I swiped it with a sterilized q tip. Also paced a sterilized shot glass below the other block right up against it so going to try to make a spore syringe with that. Wondering how difficult it will be to find decent genetics because I haven't noticed anyone growing medicinals or gourmet mushrooms starting from spores. Besides Cordyceps. Would also like to grow out this culture out at least once more with some expanded lc I put into the fridge a couple months ago.

I find lions mane need a dry sautee to rid them of some moisture. once theyre cooked down a bit you can hit em with some soy sauce or other seasoning. go easy on the seasonings as they become concentrated while the mushrooms cook.

Didn't realize when I first read this that dry sauteeing is literally sauteed without butter. Luckily I re-read this before tying cooked fresh lions mane once more.
I wanted to make it taste like lobster so I just dry sauteed it, threw it in a bowl then took a good amount of butter melted it in the same pan. Added just a pinch of garlic powder and dumped it over the lions mane already in the bowl and lightly browned from sauteeing.
It was delicious. Texture was a little like lobster tail and the flavor was like a mix between lobster and steamers (steamed clams). I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Next time I'll save more for cooking. The last of my first flush harvest is on the dehydrator.
Btw I've made lions mane into a meal twice now and both times I swear I can feel a sort of buzz from it. Don't really notice this when I take it dry and in lesser amounts as a supplement with soup. Just an observation I wanted to point out.

Edit: one more critical step I forgot to mention. When dry sauteeing I pressed each piece a few times with the spatula to squeeze out excess water. Pan was hot enough to immediately sizzle away the water and the slices of l.m. were cooked till lightly brown.
