mini sgfc?

Hi,
very new to growing mushrooms. I have followed this BRF Tek guide using 1/2 pint jars and now fruiting phase is coming up in a couple of days.
I was wondering if I could build a SGFC in what is a box of these dimensions:
Ikea SAMLA, some of you may know.
I can't use one of those huge 50l totes due to space constraints. The only place here that is heated AND has light is also a place where I can't have it sit out in the open. It has to fit on a window sill behind a curtain which the boxes I have are perfect for.
I am aware that the height might be an issue if I set the cake on top of the perlite, but I have a sort of plastic over-lid that came with the jars where the cakes would sit perfectly in and which I could press down into the perlite to gain a couple of centimetres.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Don’t make a SGFC. If you’re set on fruiting the cakes directly, make a water tub. Take your tote, fill it with a few inches of water, and put your cakes on a raised surface inside. Using a raised cookie rack or even putting the cakes on upside down jars works great.
SGFC are a waste of time and money and they tend to not work very well.
Do you have coir? The best option, imo, is to simply bury the cakes in hydrated coir and let them fruit that way. You’ll get results like this if you bury them

Here's my shoebox Water Tub thats been pumping out fruits like crazy from BRF cakes. You can dub tub it just during fruiting to save space, if need be...

From what I've read, SGFCs are a pain. They are annoying to make and maintaining chamber conditions is difficult. Water tubs or burying in coco, like Hobbit said, will certainly be easier and will most likely be an overall better experience.
As an additional option, I grated my BRF/verm cakes and spawned to a shoebox-like container. I followed this Tek pretty closely: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26009662
As a newcomer who has just harvested a handful of flushes, my best advice would be to follow a Tek that requires you to do as little as possible during fruiting. The Tek I linked is pretty set and forget, and Hobbit's "burying cakes in properly hydrated coco coir" Tek seems legit too! Mycelium will pop through the surface and you'll be tempted to open the lid, take photos, fan, mist, etc. because you've seen pictures of dewy mycelium. From what I've observed, the mycelium starts out looking kind of dry, almost like velvet. Once the mycelium colonizes the top layer a decent amount--and the surrounding humidity is sufficient--the microbeads will form.
Again, I'm not as experienced as some of the others who have chimed in, so you should value their info more than mine

I have never heard of doing this. Seems like this would be even less upkeep than a water tub as I am guessing you are never going to mist (I know, you don't always need to mist a water tub if it is right) unless you didn't hydrate the coir properly to begin with. Have some cakes in a tub right now, maybe I will try this with the next batch.

I haven't done cakes for ages but mono experience always told me burying cakes in hydrated coir would work. Thanks for the confirmation. Reckon this is better than water tubs? Not gonna use it, just nice to help advise noobs.

SGFC's are getting phased out of use. The new FC is the Water Tub FC, as already mentioned: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26601054#26601054
Large 1 or 2 gallon plastic bags can also be used as a cheaper substitute. Ive used these reusable silicone baggies with decent success:

I love baggies. These are some APEs grown from leftover spawn, out of a sandwich bag with another identical sandwich bag on top for the "fc". It doesn't get much easier than this.
Thanks for the advice. I might even do a few cakes and see how good water tubs are for myself.

Like many noobs, I got my start with cakes in a Midwest Grow kit. I've graduated to monos, but I'm curious why someone would still choose to go this route when there are seemingly so many other superior teks?

Because you can grow numerous genetics at the same time without getting overwhelmed by harvests. I’d rather harvest a few ounces of various genetics rather than a single large harvest I can’t do anything with because I already have more than enough. I admire the skill and work involved but don’t need the yield. It’s a hobby thing for me.
