Too much FAE?
    #28621224 - 01/14/24 04:03 PM (13 days, 15 hours ago)

I have several jars of rye berry that I inoculated on 1/8. They look great so far. The last round ended up getting too wet, so this time around I decided to drill another 3/8" hole in the lids and cover it with an SFD.

I have them on a shelf in my bedroom where I run a fan on low at night. I'm wondering if this will provide too much FAE and dry out the grains. Thoughts? How would I know if I had a problem?

The fan won't affect the moisture of your jars, you will be fine.

Looking good so far

I know, I know, I know... mycelium works on it's own timeline and all that, but my jars are on Day 10 now, which feels like a lot considering how far along it is. Sanity check me please

They DO look healthy however. A few seem to be reaching upwards, which is curious to me because there should be plenty of FAE in those lids

Day 10? I wouldn't be concerned. I had some jars that did the same thing. They're just finishing up now in a day or two. I say you're looking good rn.

Lol shake those bitches or at least shake one and compare if your unsure about it.

It will take much longer for them to spread if you don't shake.

They look good.

Shit.. There's barely anything to shake up rn. I was going to at least wait until 20-30%

You should put them somewhere where you don't see them everyday to make the waiting easier...

I guess I see it as maybe 50+ inoculation points there in that little group

Yeah, you're not wrong. I just always approach any interaction with trepidation as it seems the biggest points of failure always come when I get involved in the process.

I'll think about it and consider it tomorrow.

Lol I can't blame you for being worried, sometimes it's fun to try 1 jar and compare colonization times.

Good luck with whatever you decide it's looking good either way.

Okay, well it's day 14 now. I'd tried tilting the jars to cover the top of the mycelial mass with grains hoping that would help some, but I think I'm going to shake em up today

Well, it looks like the break and shake was a success! 3 days later, all 8 seem to be rebounding nicely.
