I have a write up in the works about LI and Subtropicalis was my first success with many jars since.

I love LI and have great success with it with subtropicalis. I combine the ideas of LI and Long Term Sterile Water Storage and can just pour a super speedy jar of reliable culture any time I like.
This is how I perpetuate all of my favorite cultures:
- I take a very clean plate of a culture I want to preserve and propagate.
- Dice up the colonized part really fine (~1cm cubes) when is reaches about 75% coverage.
- Drop the finely diced myceliated agar into media bottles that have been half filled with distilled water and sterilized.
- Shake the bottles once a day or month for as long as you want to, or don't. Doesn't seem to matter.
- Then shake vigorously and pour 5 to 10 ml into prepared grain any time after the first week.
- When you get low, put a drop or two on a couple of new plates and start over.
Infinite-ish culture. Cheap and easy, except for the media bottles. I have been getting cheap 100 ml media bottles on the 'zon.
I usually do two bottles per culture. It would be wise to reserve one as a "Master" to keep the other going as near perpetual "slaves" in the same way they do with slants.
Some details on where this started. LC from LI trial Didn't really become an LC but it led to this idea when combined with the cryo vial storage in sterile dh2o threads.
Now each culture that I want to preserve gets a 100 ml media bottle with 50 ml sterilized distilled water and a whole petri dish of clean culture on finely diced agar.
What I have in LI storage (complete):
- SWPE - A potent non-blobbing lineage from one of my first two grows
- Tampanensis (Pollock) -Ambrose
- Subtropicalis - "fast" -Melgo
- Lion's mane - My first gourmet lineage -sponsor
What I am currently working on to get into storage:
- Jack Frost -labar
- Starry Night APE -labar
- Pan Bisporus -sponsor
- Pan Cyan BVI -sponsor
- Pan Cambo Komodo -PsiloPsychin
- Pan Cyan Kona Hi Rainbow Eucalyptus -PsiloPsychin
- Pan Cyan Brooks FL -PsiloPsychin
- Pan Cyan Wild Coast Africa -PsiloPsychin

- Mexicana Chicon Nando -PsiloPsychin

So guys, I got my first shoebox of Semperviva contamined and now I'm sterilizing 2 jars of millet... fortunately I got these 3 plates that I'm conserving in the fridge; do you think they look well enough? Is that blue color normal while keeping them in the fridge?

Normal? I have never seen a subtrop plate blue like that, but I have seen the myc get really blue on shaken grains. So I wouldn't be too scared of it. It could have just been stressed by drying or the cold. But I would give preferential treatment to the other two less blue plates and be sure to get transfers before going to grain to keep working it in any case.

Mine always recovered within 24 hours. Never used LI as I personally don't like the idea behind it. I prefer to make LC with Josex Poke and inoculate with it.
Whatโs the difference between LI and LC? I always thought they were the same thing ๐
Li is pulverized myc suspended in water. An lc is myc growing through a nutritious solution.

Fast variety is fully colonized on oats and ready to go to tub, currently cleaning up slow variety on agar. Loving how aggressive the mycelium has been. Just running a simple coco/verm substrate, is there anything i need to know before i start my tubs? Just run the substrate a little dryer than cubes?

Sounds like you are starting off right. In my experience they do best when I start the sub dryer than cubes, thin casing once there is a good amount of myc visible on the surface (not necessarily fully colonized, though), mist the casing well one time after application, then keep them well misted after pins show up. They like lots of fae once they are pinning, but that may mean more frequent misting depending on environment.

Ps. Semperviva (Hoogshagenii var. convexa). I can't wait to trip on them! I hope in about 2 or 3 weeks I'll have a chance to trip and to describe my experience. If the next flush appears, gotta try to mist them to get some prints.

15 days old at time of this picture. 1 pint millet from li.

9 day old same li on quarts of wheat.

64 days old from li on wheat. Not as pretty. The one of left is not 100% clean. Post shake and a half hour later when the bruising got quite visible.

These fellas became this. Spawned on day 20, first harvest day 29 from spawn.
