May be contaminated?
    #28627925 - 01/19/24 11:12 PM (8 days, 8 hours ago)

Hello, I am a very long-time lurker (literally 20+ years) but just recently decided to learn how to cultivate and create an account.  I've done my best to do my research and not post yet another "mold or mycelium" thread, but I am unsure about this and leaning toward 'mold', however, I am not exactly sure and wanted a second opinion from this board.

I'm doing the PF Tek - followed to a 'T' and it's worked amazing, I've learned a ton and this is quite fun.  My first flush awarded me with 12g of dried mushrooms, so if these end up in my compost barrel it's not a total loss, I'll use one of my spore prints, learn from this experience and try again  I'm surprised I managed to get them to grow on my first attempt!
-
After picking my first flush (over three days) I decided to second dunk them for 24 hours- also I soaked my perlite again as it was very dry and my cakes were quite light (my average house humidity is below 30%.  I do have a cool mist humidifier in my room which keeps the humidity around 50% - and I also have Home Assistant running a switch controlling a heater to keep the room temp to a constant 74 degrees (my SGFC sits around 71.

I also have a 'mushroom light' that is on 12 hours a day (solar noon +/- 6 hours). A "Grower's Select LED 5500/6000k, 900lumens, E27 48 Diode" has no specific model number.

I brought out my good camera for these pictures - and when I was first looking through them it looked like it was bruising in the mycelium, but in some pictures, the blue-green looks a little fuzzy, and I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to post here for a second opinion to know if this was thae 'bad blue'.

I am truly grateful for this community!

This was what they gave me, 12g - vacuum sealed.  I'm going to grind them down into a powder and set up for the Stamets Stack.

That's just bruising likely from drying out with the sgfc. We try to steer new growers to the water tub these days. Sgfc's let way to much airflow unless packed with like 8 more cakes then you have in there. especially if you're running a heater at times. No need to toss those cakes they're all gonna be good just try n not let em ever get completely dry.

Here's link to the Water Tub I'd check that out for your next grow.

☆ wrote all that then realized your on 2nd flush. Could just be bruising from handling them and picking the first flush. Cuz they actually look pretty moist and wet to me. I'd just keep doing what you've been doing. Looks like good flushes incoming.

Pic 8 might be mold but usually it stands out a little more. I think that blue green dot is a bruised pin. Maybe quarantine that cake. It will still fruit if you keep it misted. No perlite necessary.

Great job.

Agreed 8 does look a little off i hadnt seen it fully zoomed but I wonder if it's just the lighting/picture? But quarintining that cake is a good idea or if it's spread more by the time OP sees this just toss it.

Hello guys, it's been pretty close to exactly 48 hours since I posted.

Yes, @Goatrider I'm 100% convinced this is all just bruising because now it all turned white, and apparently after dunking it's not uncommon for 'white fuzz' to show up and I'm sure it was a shock to go from hot and very dehydrated to being submerged in cold water for 24 hours.

If it weren't for this huge snowstorm we are in, and entertaining over the weekend, I would have dumped these into the compost barrel first thing yesterday morning - I lifted the lid just now to Ziploc bag these guys and I was welcomed to a small handful of open mushrooms and most of the 'green' turned to white (another 44g) - they are in a Ziploc container now in the fridge (on paper towel) and in a few days, those and the others that will be harvested will go into the dehydrator (given they aren't contaminated)

@WyoMX thanks for linking to the "Tub Tek"! That looks so much easier and makes more sense.  After these cakes have run their course I'll try that out with the second syringe of B+ I bought when I purchased this Golden Teacher syringe.  I figured if I fail with the 'easy' ones I would learn enough to be able to get the second ones to go.

@elastictiger I appreciate your words! I am quite surprised I managed to get these to the second flush, I learned a TON and I know what to do better next time.  I was very careful with sterility and even ran a Hepa-Filtered air purifier in the room I worked the SAB in for 24 hours before inoculation.  We do have one of those small "Instapot's" but I am now going to buy a full-size pressure cooker - we like to cook anyway so it will be a worthwhile investment.

Here are some pictures I just took - just to be sure though, this white fuzz is normal, right?
(it's a slight PIA to get these pictures because I have to put the microSD card from the camera into an adapter, put it into a laptop, transfer it onto a portable SSD, and then convert them to JPG before uploading here)

Again, thanks, guys!

PS. Please let me know if this is contaminated, however - This is the first time I've been through this

Right on good luck! One thing is don't keep your mushrooms you harvested in a zip lock bag in the fridge. They will rot they need fresh air even in the fridge lol. Sometimes I'll just wrap them in paper towel if I don't have a paper bag but definitely don't keep them in the zip lock.

I don't like #9 but the rest just look like bruising unless it's the same deal as #9 and just not as bad.

It looks like a blue mold and maybe pseudomonas?

Kind of similar to here
