I think this is a fake.. what do you all think?

This image was posted on Instagram purportedly by a well known and published wildlife photographer on assignment for Nat. Geo... It looks suspiciously to me like chanterelles growing up a tree.. something that simply doesn't happen. I suppose they might possibly be Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca, but I've never really seen them growing like this either... they grown on wood, but not up trees like this, so far as I've ever observed.. and the mushrooms in the image really look like chanterelles..
What do you all think? AI fake? or real

I'm not wholly anti-AI... but don't try to pass it off as genuine.. especially not as something documentary.
best reserved for things like
-------------------- Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

Exactly... which makes me think it's not real... just too many things not quite right about it.

But the color on these is definitely embellished.
Pleurotus have gills though... those just look really veined... they look like someone created a chanterelle- Pleurotus hybrid. Orange and veined like chanterelles, growing in clumps up a tree like Pueurotus. I was wondering if somehow someone else maybe hacked the photographer's account... I can't imagine risking one's reputation by posting anything AI.. but the whole series looks a bit odd.

Nah- if they are real (I'm still not convinced) and weren't really that color, it's all manipulation... there's a relatively dense fog in that photo. It's unlikely that a sunrise was cutting through it enough to affect colors...

I'm not on Facebook... but I'm not only a bit of a mushroom nerd.. I'm a professional photographer, and a graphic designer, and I've been working with AI for legit purposes (mainly to make backgrounds for product mockups). More than one of my BS meters started pegging when I saw the image... I think on Instagram the poster cannot delete comments. I'm not the only one who has questioned it over there.
