when do i start, when fully colonized, or when i see pins? if using a continuous spray bottle that has a fine mist, should i spray the sides of the monotub, or the substrate/mushrooms directly? every day right?

Don’t mist at all except between flushes or when you see the sub drying out, if there’s little beads of water on the substrate you’re fine.

If the tub is getting the proper FAE while retaining the proper moisture you won't need to mist it. When mixing spawn with the sub you just heavily mist to hydrate the sub and only rehydrate after you harvest.

after i harvest i usually bottom water. i have bottom watered before in emergency situations during fruiting but very seldom and i dont advise it. dont mist fruits directly, only mist when sub looks dry. if you need an example, look no further than this thread.

you guys told me to stop watching videos and start reading this forum. that's what i've been doing. i have read threads from people with 10-20K posts and have been around for 10-15 years. some of them say to mist. some of them say not to mist. some of them say to mist only under certain conditions, or at certain stages. some of them say to fan, which is something you guys previously told me not to do. i read it's to remove gases, but you guys told me it will dry out my substrate.
it seems like the advice given also depends on what you are growing in. i've seen several posts saying leave tubs alone. no mist, no fan, don't worry about FAE, which i'm assuming means fresh air exchange. this thread has brought two new things to my attention which i have not read before, when mixing spawn/sub heavily mist the sub, and bottom water. not sure what bottom water means.
it's hard being a noob. everybody has more rep and experience than me. just want to make sure i am listening to the right people and doing the right things.

its putting water into the bottom of the tub by pouring it flush down the sides so it doesnt get the surface wet. the block soaks up the water from below and moves it into the fruits as they develop.

You need to check how old some of those posts are, also what type of grow they’re doing, if it’s pf cakes or pans then yeah, they’ll require misting but limit your search for information to the last couple years for the latest teks and then check whether it’s the same setup to what you’re using, not to mention there’s a heap of variables from the brand of coir you’re using to what season it is and where that’ll dictate differences in grow parameters, you’ll get there dude, it’s frustrating at first but all comes together 👍

We need a color chart for subs that shows what proper hydration looks like. I think I just might make one

this makes sense.
for a tub, only mist if dry, or between flushes. for FAE, is the only thing to do plugging the holes in the tub and later unplugging and filling with some form of air filter? when do i switch from the plug to the air filter?

Here's another factor - sometimes some one will claim with authority that X is the way and Y is bad, when there is no consensus on such a subject.
I've had long standing accounts go against long standing advice on these forums where they pushed their credentials and long standing history with the site to try and give weight to arguments for which there is no consensus or where they're simply wrong.
As such I decide based upon an aggregate of positions and opinions (or at least those that I can find with search) before implementing the advice here on on my personal set up.
