Maybe I'm misreading, but the wad of silicone is your SHIP, correct? So you're aspirating through an RTV SHIP in the LC jar and injecting the LC through a wad of Polyfil in jars that use Polyfil instead of SFDs?
If so, it doesn't seem like you'd aspirate much of the total LC with the size of needle you're using. Are you opening the lid to suck up LC at all? Or tilting the jar?
Also, not sure what this means:
Quote:
.but what we are doing is we build a Self Healing Injection Port by extruding the silicon into the hole and making it neat by sandwiching it with paper while it cures...
It looks like there's only silicone in place for the SHIP and no other paper or Tyvek you mentioned earlier. Seems like you only put surgical tape on top of the crimped plumbing insert to help keep the Poly dry?

i inject throught the silicon. There is polyfill inside the brass plumbing insert covered with tyvek and yes...brass keeps it dry.

I would love to get some testimonials if anyone has built and used this LC vessel lid.

I too am most concerned with the lids of LC jars. This seems like it would keep the polyfill from being soaked all the way through; only the very bottom at most. Does anyone know if the whole filter medium has to be soaked through for contams to get in? Or just a little wet on one section? Regardless, the tyvek/micropore creates a second filter safe from moisture.
Are Whatman filters just immune to this sort of water-soiling?

Aye! Cool lids man. Question though, you leave dont crimp the insert all the way do you.? If you did it should block GE. Anyways, here my go at them, i should be transfering an agar wedge to your lc formula in the next week.
how does it look?

Hey, props to the write up. But I am curious why you go through so much work for that GE? Why couldn't you just cover it with a piece of tyvek only? I am working on my first LC, and I have a magnetic stir bar, and I don't plan on having to shake my jar so that it splashes the lid. It makes sense in my head.
Also, after inoculating the LC does it just go directly into the fridge? or does it need to stay warmer while the mycelium grows at first?
I appreciate your feedback very much, thanks for taking your time to read, and help me out.

The reason the extreme measures on the filter is that wet means pathway for contamination. By encasing the filter in brass and making it elongated you can agitate the LC and keep the filter dry. A normal tyvek filter will contaminate.

Why use the filer at all I just put 2 ships in mine and to release the pressure I use an old syringe stuffed tight with Polyfil seems to give it enough oxygen I find lc doesn’t really need much fae to grow and use 5g light malt extract 20g dextrose to 500 ml water put like 250ml in 500ml jars and pc@15 psi 15 min take out and tighten lids as soon as pressure is released

I've made lids using new 10ml chubby gorilla bottles stuffed with polyfil (I bought 100 for $12 lol) but this is an even cheaper and just as effective method that doesn't require drilling several 1/8 holes in semi rigid PET.
I make my own filters because I don't like ordering LAB equipment, I've been off the radar for 20 years I'd like to stay that way.

Hey bud this was a nice simple informative write up.... I’ve heard of LC here and there but i didn’t really want to stray from something before I absolutely perfected it first( I’m just now starting to feel confident enough in my agar making/cleaning/contam identifying skills now). With that being said i mean it’s clear as day the huge advantage this plays over having to wait for 1 or 2 inoculation points to do their thing.. I absolutely need to benefit from the time which could be saved and everyone likes saving money,, lol I may seriously consider giving this a shot in the very near future. 8 (if I do I think I’ll just cough up the $ for SHIPS offline) but the one reason haven’t looked into LC sooner is because I heard that it’s not as successful say compared to just dropping wedges.... do You find this to be true?
-------------------- Hope I can help & Thanks for the help!

I've been doing a 4% solution 12 g Honey 300 mls of distilled water
I PC for 20 minutes
Inoculate with 4cc of a spore syringe
About Honey There's no such thing as organic honey Bees fly up to two miles in all directions, so there's no way they're not gathering pollen and nectar off untreated flora
There's only two states that have Honey standards. In the remaining states you can sell 8 ounces of honey and there might only be an ounce of actual honey the remaining volume is corn syrup
Real honey crystallizes ,the products in store retail don't crystallize
Where did you come up with 285 mls of water and 15 g Honey?

That's why certified organic honey is produced at least six miles from any chemical producing human infrastructure, including agriculture.

Filtered honey doesn't crystallize, that doesn't mean it's not 'real'.
