Home automation for the do-it-yourselfer???
    #2863104 - 07/06/04 11:37 PM (13 years, 19 days ago)

Do any of you have home automation systems you've installed yourself? I just bought a house and have been wanting to do something like this.

I want distributed video, music and computing for sure. I'm not sure what extent I want to automate the rest of the home though yet. Probably security, lighting, and HVAC at the least.

What I'm really interested in is voice control and voice feedback though. Mainly control. Has anyone had any success at doing this themeselves that you know of? I've not been able to find much on the web.

I keep it real because I think it is important that a highly esteemed individual such as myself keep it real lest they experience the dreaded spontaneous non-existance of no longer keeping it real. - Hagbard Celine

check out X10.com they carry everything you'll need. Radio Shack/Tandy also make this stuff, as well as a few others. But those are the big ones.

We use to have it all set up to control lights and alarm system.
Most of the controllers can be programmed with your computer. The x10 software allows you to program and schedule events.

Anyhow, they have home automation stuff ranging from Video distribution to home alarms, weather centers, appliance controls, stuff to control your HVAC. I believe they do in fact also have voice trigger stuff too. Check it out.
