WOOT!.. active Pluteus found growing in my terrarium! * 1
    #28630973 - 01/22/24 11:50 AM (3 months, 24 days ago)

Hahaha! I had to share this with you all because I am stunned with disbelief. Last summer I tore a chunk of wood off a log that I found my first Pluteus growing from (americanus or saupei?). I tossed the chunk of wood into my terrarium as a way to remember that wonderful day. Fast forward to -10*F weather outside and I'm gazing longingly into my terrarium when I see this:

.

My mind was absolutely blown. My terrarium is entirely enclosed and was built with zero knowledge of how it is done. It consists of two ferns from Walmart and a bunch of wild moss along with the wood chunk. That is all. Humidity inside measured at 95% and 65*F temps with nothing but a crack at the top for FAE. I had zero intention of growing any mushrooms and yet they found me!

:disco:

Yes, it may have been a bunch of fat slugs which have been enjoying the predator-free environment of my terrarium. Haha. But I'm guessing the cap simply grew against the branches of one of the ferns and turned out all weird shaped.
