testing LC with microscope vs agar?
    #28630638 - 01/22/24 03:51 AM (6 days, 4 hours ago)

Question:

Friend has a compound microscope that he wants to get rid of for 40 bucks.  I do large output grow.  I live in a area where its legal.  I have 4 stir plates going with 4 1000 ml LC's.  They look great so far.  I know i will have to plate them out first to test, but then i have to wait for the fungus to grow.......

So my question is, can you put the LC on a slide and identify contam much quicker than waiting for the agar to grow out?  Could you visually identify contam just by looking at it?

Thanks

I never did,
but i´m sure you can identify bacterial rods
and yeasts easily.

In the end a test on agar is superior to me.

:whathesaid:
I have gotten a liquid culture from a friend, that was contaminated and I looked at it under the scope and I saw bacteria, and I cleaned it up on agar. So yes.
I don’t think a microscope gives you a whole lot of advantage as a grower, if that’s all your relationship with fungi is. But they are handy for cultivation, and study.
