Hey, everyone.
I don’t have much experience with pressure cookers/canners aside from cooking food with my Instant Pot…
Is it normal for steam/pressure to slowly leak from the vent pipe while the jiggle weight is in place but the pressure hasn’t yet reached 15 psi?
After venting steam for 10 minutes, I put the jiggle weight in place (with 2 quarters taped to it - I know you can get away with 3, but I’m just playing it safe). The pressure rises pretty quickly, but I still have a little bit of steam/splatter escaping from the vent pipe the whole time. I get up to operating pressure (about 16-17 psi), lower the heat to keep it there, then after processing for however long, I turn off the burner. The steam/pressure continues to slowly leak from the vent pipe the whole time I’m cooking and as it cools off and the pressure drops.
I’m definitely able to reach the required pressure and keep it there for the required amount of time, but once I turn off the heat the pressure leaks off pretty fast (like maybe 10 minutes).
Is this totally normal, or did I get an extra leaky Presto?
Thanks!

Is your rocker constantly rocking?
If you say you're getting steam release do you mean it's rocking the rocker or just a little hiss of steam between rocks?
Once your rocker is at full rocking dial the heat back until the rocker just gives one little rock of release every 30 to 90 seconds or so. If it's constantly rocking then you are losing pressure and not quite fully at 15 psi.

Just a little hiss, not as if the weight is actually being lifted - just like the vent pipe isn’t making a perfect seal with the inside of the weight. I get that little bit of hiss/spitting pretty much any time there is pressure in the PC and the weight is in place, but it seems to be minor enough that I have no trouble reaching and maintaining pressure. Once I hit my target pressure (roughly 17 psi), I turn the flame way down and it holds with just a little hiss/splatter.
I did a test run with no quarters taped on the weight, and the gauge read exactly 15 psi when the weight started jiggling/rocking. So I know my gauge is more or less accurate.
