So we did try that with the Agar up and the lid on the bottom, that way the condensation couldn't fall on to the Agar/specimen. Then when cutting a seam in the tape to take the lid off it just jostled around and splashed up on the Agar. Or a big enough tissue sample would give way to gravity and just fall back to the lid side. That, I know can be prevented with just a rice kernel size sample that can be poked into the Agar a bit. My biggest thing was using paper tape and not having the finesse to wrap the dishes with my arms poked thru holes in a tub. We were using a bigger tub with the largest size can punch outs. You guys got me tempted to go another round but I should put this one in the confessional. I got so pissed at one point that I threw that constructed SAB in the yard and jumped off a chair to simulate world wrestling stars jumping off the ropes on to someone's back. It imploded, that's when I pretty much gave up on Agar and sterility then just started inoculating bags on toilets. My screen name should be Agarjealous

Not wasting the space with a new thread, but 2 years ago today, before taking the time to fumble thru signing up to the shroomery. Not that it's a difficult process, I'm just inept and was so excited to see what the forum had to offer. Here are some of things I enjoy over the course of my short membership. The trusted vendors, going thru the sites looking at selections like a menu at the best restaurant in town. I for some reason like observing the avatars in comparison to the screen names, and then of course there's looking at other members registry date (I think, don't quote me the oldest I found was year 2000). Then of course there was the amazement and canopy jealousy pictures, the 100+ g single fruit pic postings, and other amazing pics. One picture I can still remember distinctly and was early on in my membership was where a person was using leather working tools to make small punch outs in Agar and developing these perfect rhizomorphic star pattern plates. I didn't know shit then but thought wow here's someone who really appreciates the craft. Anyways thanks for having me thru all my antics and query.

Just got the ATW lc by new source today. I was not used to seeing a culture syringe in the way it was prepared. I showed Grandma, she said it looks like you've got you a nice syringe full of urine to go with your pecker envy. I went into a dark bathroom and shined the celly light on it. Wow, there's alot of mycelium in there. I guess the yellow color I'm seeing is the broth suspension? The prepared quart jar is scheduled to arrive tomorrow for the culture expansion experience. Looking forward to cloning it in the future with tissue from a desired fruit.

It's listed for 20 with one website and 27 on another, same kit. The tax and shipping not included. I went with the higher priced website because I have used them before on other supplies and I already had an account set up. Total out the door with undercoat, full tank of gas, title and license fees.... 38 bucks. I think if I went with the cheaper listing on the same kit, it would of been 30. They have pint size looking jars too but I didn't price them. I'm sure I could of fabricated my own for cheaper, just looked at a short tutorial video on one of the trusted vendors websites, how to prepare your own lc. Looks like the chief ingredient was corn syrup and malt extract. I tell ya pretty cool a vendor would have that video on their site.

yeah a quart of LC costs about $1.50 to make if you include the cost of a new jar. but why even fuck around with LC or costly "experiments" at this point in the journey? if you just want shrooms blast away with PF tek, if you're interested in mycology try taking first steps with agar

1.50! Are you kidding me! I got duped in with those fancy pictures. I need to stop wasting money and learn Agar patience. Stop karate chopping fabricated SAB's everytime it doesn't work out. I'm going to try plates again. The local shop keep told me they would pick thru blank plates to find me a selection that has less moisture. I do like to explore, still figuring out what works for me.

Agar is really not that challenging. I am saying this as a total noob. My no-pour agar method consists of using plastic ketchup cups, some aluminum foil and my ninja foodie to PC the "plates." There are tons of agar recipes out there. Except the agar powder itself you may already have the ingredients (like instant potato flakes). I have done 30 plus agar plates, multiple transfers, and have basically zero contams.

BuzzedAlien thank you for the input, not challenging? You seem to have a natural skill for it. That's outstanding that you make your own and then go on to have no contamination, makes me have Agar envy. I'm like a fumbling side show clown with those dang plates. I get anxious at the mere site of lab dishes. I wish I had your clarity and success with said process and items.

That was interesting enough, the kit jar comes with a little magnet and stir stick on the inside of the jar. The stick was stuck against the bottom of the jar lid. The vendor instructions stated to hit the top of the jar with a rubber mallet or a book. I covered the jar with a clean, fresh from the box, ziplock bag (not knowing what kind of funk might be attached to a 90 year old book). I hit the rim of the jar with the book spine. The stir stick cur-clinked to the bottom of the jar. I used a old book, copyright 1934, concerning financing in America. Grandpa was a ph.d in economics and it is something Grandma keeps around. Maybe should of used a different book.
