So iv made a total of 9 tubs so far 2 of them not making it to complete colonization and being ruined by trich the other 5 actually made it to produce fruit but then again got hit my trich Idk what else to do, I place by coco in a bucket pour boiling water into it wait for it to cool then use it to make my bins Also I clean my bins with alcohol twice before placing the coco in them and I use gloves and spray with alcohol up to my elbow before handling the coco and spawn I also wear a mask threw the process, any feedback help idk what else to do to try and prevent this 7 out of 9 bins not making it is just not cool

it's likely coming from earlier in the process. What are the steps you follow to make your spawn?

How much coco at a time are you doing in the bucket tek?
The more you're doing at a time the less effective bucket tek is at getting rid of contams. Not saying that's where it's coming in at but it's something to think about.

Did you use different buckets for grains and coir, or maybe the same?

You got photos of the grain spawn? Bet the contam is coming from the spawn.

Just my two cents worth...
Since changing from cheap "weed grow" 650g blocks of coir, to the individually sealed reptile substrate bricks, my trichoderma issues have massively improved. To the point where I can pinpoint many of my failures to using the blocks designed for growing weed (other failures due to contaminated spawn)
For the small increase in cost, this has been the best change I've made to my process.
Peace β

A little more info, I use coco that I bought from a bulk soil supplier near me, I buy it by the yard for the grow room and store it in a large tote that has a plastic inner liner then the actual nylon tote on the outside of it So I use millet from wbs in quart jars I use 6qts of coco and 2qts of grain per tub sometimes 2-1/2qts I will upload pics of spawn shortly

In the last picture, is the second jar from the left recovering from a recent shake? If not and that's just how it grew that jar is probably the primary culprit. Grains that aren't fully colonized are the perfect medium for mold.
Either way those jars don't look perfect to me. I probably would have spawned them individually.
Next time you do your bucket of coco leave some coco in the bucket and check on it in a couple weeks. You'll see it's not your coco prep.

That 3rd jar is heavily bacterial and the 4th looks like itβs on its way, like elasticaltiger said theyβre all suss, if it isnβt your cultures then Iβd bet itβs your grains and/or how theyβre prepped, sorry dude.

So as far as grain prep, I buy wbs from Walmart and put them into a tote will up with water and pull out everything that floats, then wash it out till the water runs clear Let soak for 24hrs, then wash it again till the water runs clear then remove the water, let it sit for an hour or 2 just so that itβs not super wet and whatever was is in the grain runs to the bottom and then fill my jars I do only use a instapot so I have to do 2 jars at a time and I pc them for 2-1/2hrs I usually let the jars sit for a week or 2 and every few days give them a good shake just incase the bottom grain is a tiny bit more saturated than the rest by the time I use them the moisture is evenly distributed, then I move them over to my sab and put agar into them The last batch of grain I did sat around 3-1/2 weeks before I used them and none of them grew anything

Coco coir itself will not produce trich, as it has no nutritional value for mycelium and mold. It always leads back to the health of your spawn or as Elasticaltiger stated, uncolonized grain can be a major catalyst for contamination. It is very deceiving stuff, I had a grow that had a killer first flush and when I spawned the tub it smelled oh so umami and delicious, but developed trich during the second flush. I determined my grain was not properly hydrated, so it did not get properly sterilized. Once I corrected this, my trich was gone. The jars in your pics have a concerning amount of moisture which is an indicator of contamination. Sometimes spawn is a tricky thing to diagnose.

May i ask about sea level youΒ΄re living at? Maybe you need to up pc time, maybe you need a different grain prep. You most likely generate more endospores than present when soaking for 24 hours.

Mold can grow on coco fiber for the same reasons it can grow on drywall. Spore exposure, cellulose, and humid conditions. Clean spawn is essential, as is using a quality coir (and or pasteurizing at least). Some coirs can contain mold, yeasts, and bacteria when bought. Someone correct me if Iβm wrong. Just saying not all coir is created equal.

So I live in central California I believe weβre at 68ft above sea level Iβm thinking maybe I need to fork out the money and get a real pc The instapot I use only gets up to 11psi at the most I believe Idk if that few psi difference can make all the difference

Yes, it absolutely makes all the difference. I have to pc at 18psi at my elevation. I had bacterial issues frequently when running at 15psi.

A pressure cooker will be more reliable at reaching high enough temperatures and maintaining those temperatures internally for sterilizing. Another possible factorβ¦ excessive isopropyl alcohol could be doing more harm than good, specifically residues coming into direct contact with your substrate and spawn by changing the ph and chemical composition. It canβt fully evaporate when water is reintroduced. Soap and hot water is a safer bet for cleaning bins.

Honestly if you have a microscope I'd make a slide with a sliver from the cultures you're starting your jars with... I'm not saying they're bad, but the myc looks a little off in the pics you took with the lid off. Do your jars kinda have a coconut smell?
