I think Obama inspired excitement, maybe misplaced, but people were definitely excited.

Well, we had a black president... so.. we can check that box. That's kinda cool. Too bad he was a piece of shit.

Voters were excited.
They elected him, gave him a filibuster proof senate, and a congressional majority.
In return, voters got a right wing healthcare law.
Cant imagine why this base disappeared when 2016 rolled around.

Can’t bust on Obamacare. Everyone loves Obamacare that gets it. The Republicans have done nothing except try to destroy it since it got established. They have failed because it has so much public support. I would hardly call it a right wing policy if they constantly try to dismantle and destroy it.

Obamacare was a mixed bag for me and my circle of friends. Some got good deals but for some reason when I applied the cheapest plan was 400 a month and I was taking home about 1500 a month working full time.
It wasn’t really an option so I just stuck to volunteer run doctors offices for poor, uninsured people. I’ve had better luck with those than many hospitals when it comes to level of care, tbh.
I dunno, other poor people like me had cheaper plans so maybe I did something to upset Barack.
I just lie to get state insurance whenever I can these days

It might be right wing in the rest of the world, but it's solidly left wing in the US. Even radically left wing, given the last decade.

Americans get so caught up in dumbass identity politics bullshit... They don't even have the language to talk about class struggle anymore. I guess we've just had it too good for too long.

Obamacare wasn't even a half measure, it was a mirror of Mitt Romneys plan, it's essentially Romney care, not universal health care, it's better than nothing, but still relative crumbs and doesn't bring the US in line with the rest of the developed world.

Without a doubt, it didn’t go far enough. But even that was being constantly attacked by Republicans. Hardly a right wing piece of legislation.

That's just how politics works in a 2 party system. If Dems passed it, Republicans hate it and vice versa.

It was invented by a right wing think tank, first put into effect by a Republican governor, and works by giving massive subsidies to private corporations.
Just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it’s not right wing lol

Now that’s building an electoral voter base. Cant imagine why they lose half the time to clown show fascists. Must be Russia.
Bill Clinton and Obama generated excitement. It didn't make much difference.
This country is more receptive to plutocracy and some degree of fascism than liberal economics.

I think the lesson there is that the Democratic Party will continue moving right despite voter sentiment because that’s what capital demands.
However, I still think Democratic Party power is preferable to the alternative, so it would behoove them to at least pick politicians or relatively benign popular policies to keep themselves in power. But capital doesn’t want that, the Democratic Party is ineffectual by design.

Obama continued the warmongering of Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Bush. Huge disappointment in my eyes. Hillary was onboard to keep on warmongering and that probably played a part in her loss.
