Yep, I had regular cops try to plant a baggie of meth on me and three of my friends when they already had us on weed when I was just a teenager. Luckily we had just eaten the last of the Ecstasy we had on us, and we had started the night with a quarter pound of trees but after selling it all they only got a few grams, started with 100 beans as well then about 10 minutes out from my buddy's house we split the last 10 to congratulate ourselves on a night well done. Got lit up 5 minutes later, with a blunt burning, after curfew, bunch of cash on us.

I had instructed everyone just to keep their f****** mouth shuts and the only word they know is lawyer. Warned them we were going to jail and to accept it now. Since no one would talk they ended up charging everybody but thank God they listened, worked out better that way in the end.

The sergeant put a stop to it before any more charges were added. But the way they did it made it clear that he was the one running the show and screwing over so many others.

It was so obvious what was happening, their fumble attempts at discretion are what made it so obvious that it was a setup.

After searching my car for over an hour, I mean with three or four guys. The sergeant pulls up, less than 5 minutes later a patrolman walks to his car, walks back to my car, bends down and immediately pops back up again with a little baggie... Looks over at the sergeant, and signals to him as if to ask him if they're doing this? I'm standing 3 ft from the sergeant and see him get a nervous look on his face and start shaking his head fervently no.

Two of us were 18. Two of us were 17. I guess screwing over teenagers like that even crossed his moral lines. Or maybe just the only one experienced enough to realized not to f*** with people smart enough to lawyer up immediately.

This was in the middle of the meth epidemic in the South, I guess our huge pupils made them think we must be guilty and they were clearly frustrated they couldn't find any evidence of it.

Two of us went to jail, 2 went home, but eventually we all either got the charges dropped or cleared after pretrial. If you knew the details of the arrest you'd see why it was better everyone held strong, gave them nothing to work with, rather than some idiot trying to talk their way out of it or trying to play the hero. Basically had to do with position of evidence, the fact that it was my car but I wasn't anywhere near the weed, a couple of other mitigating factors. They ended up having to drop the charges on everybody who didn't jump at a plea deal for pretrial diversion. I don't think they had any idea what to do with it, as it took them over 2 years to even arraign me. I think they were just hoping I would get arrested again in the meantime, make their job easy, which I didn't. Not for lack of trying but I took the lessons of that night to heart.

#1 Don't smoke in the car while you're selling drugs.
#2 Don't f*** around with minors after curfew.
#3 Have a better hiding place prebuilt. Don't think popping off a piece of the car's interior and popping it back on is good enough.

Mostly just don't give them any justification to search your car without consent.

Rolling in jail wasn't so bad. Way better than tripping.

I guess it's worth noting my county's sheriff ended up practically removed from office(resigned) for corruption after a DEA investigation connected him to the meth trade, though he was able to avoid any jail time or much media attention after turning and having his charges dropped.

The details are still fuzzy as they kept the public out of it as much as possible and it wasn't the kind of area that draws much investigative journalism...but the short end of it was he was taking payments to turn a blind eye to certain peoples actions. It was never clear exactly who though...traffickers, producers, organized crime, or just the largest local dealers.

Taking kids away from criminals and drug addicts is kind of cps's job... And the last one is very understandable. Sometimes jail or even prison is many people's only path off the bad tracks they are on.

I wouldn't say I'm grateful to any LEO or the criminal justice system, but there's definitely a couple arrests that I don't regret as my life would be very different right now without them and not for the better. If I were still alive at all. But I've never spent longer than than a few weeks in county.

And I hate the police and the criminal justice system as much as the next guy. But I don't hate all police or the idea of law enforcement.

And I know a whole hell of a lot more people who should have been taken away from their parents and would have been better off, even as bad as that experience might end up...group homes are terrible and so are a lot of foster parents, but the good ones outnumber the bad ones. Than people who wrongly were.
