Just got a Chestnut mushroom culture via a promo from one of our trusted vendors. I assume it's OK to name them here due to the culture being gourmet?
Really cool packaging, the 'open me panel' has gloves, needle, alcohol wipe and instructions.

Will post my progress here as things unfold.

Ello everyone! Newbie here with a quick question! My husband got me this pre colonized lions mane grow bag from online. It looks good (I think) other than this huge crack through the block. It goes completely through the middle of the block and even on the top. From what I've read mushrooms should still grow ok but I have no idea where to cut the bag for fruiting anymore. I'm not sure how the broken block will affect the fruiting process and if I should stil cut a slit on the side or try to top fruit?

Any help is very much appreciated! 💜

That's the nicest syringe packaging I've ever seen.

Mooffy: the crack looks insignificant. You can cut a slit on any face where the substrate is touching the bag.

Thank you so much! I knew I was probably over thinking and over worrying lol. I can't wait to try growing lions mane from step 1 on my own instead of a pre colonized thing. Thanks to this forum that will be soon! 🤭

After growing cubes for years on and off I recently delved into gourmet mushroom growing. Here are my first results:

"Bear's tooth" Lion's mane that I put into fruiting conditions about a week ago. Seems to be doing well. Not sure about the species as the shop in Denver didn't specify on the packaging.

King oysters which were placed into fruiting conditions about two months ago and are just now starting to produce a handful of fruits. I knew these were more difficult and did it as a challenge. I think I may have oversaturated the master's mix which led to the slow colonization and fruiting, also my temps are probably too high 68*F+. Is the unusual shape due to high temp stress?

tia for any hints and criticism, still very new to growing these edible species

Some dense bois growing in a cold garage ranging from 40-55F. Has taken them 12 days to get to this point. The King Blue Oysters seem to be loving it though. Got some nice pinsets coming in on them.

Thanks man, finally getting back into things with a small setup. Loving these king blues so far.

Not quite as nice as yours but were gettin there. Looks like you do your cut on the bottom of the blocks. Might need to give that a try.

Your blues look great.

I like cutting the bottom but anywhere works. A cut on the side might produce shrooms faster. The bottoms of my blocks are usually the last place to colonize, I have a feeling the upper areas are ready to pin before the bottom. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Low temps and lots of fae make a nice pinset ime.

Not too bad for the first harvest off a 2.5lb block after getting back into things. Dry sautéd em to sweat some moisture before adding a lil butter and seasoning and then used em as burger toppings for the fam.
Happy Friday:toast:
