Updated Enigma TEKs? 1

I'm fascinated in Enigma and want to take a shot at it, but I'm having a hard time finding recent information about Enigma. Have cultivators just moved on from it?
I've got a pair of T1 dishes that I'll probably do at least one more transfer of, but I'm wondering about sub/spawn ratio. I've read that they need a bit more water, so I was thinking I would do agar to rye and then after colonized, do like a 3:1 coco/verm. Thoughts? Links to more info?

Not a clue -
But my gut says higher sub to spawn ratio.. like 1:3 bare minimum grain:c(vg)

This is directly from a TC on here who has a lot of experience with Enigma. I was recently picking his brain as well because I've got a nice plate grown out but hadn't thought much further than that lol.
I do know, however, that it is slower than molasses in an igloo. If I remember correctly he said it's like 2 months spawn to harvest, or something equally outrageous.

Oh interesting... that coco-only would make what? around 8qt? If so, that is < a 2:1

According to Fahts recipe for a single quart of CV the 650g (dry) coir will make ~16 quarts of hydrated and expanded CV. In my experience I get less than 16 though, I think I typically get about 12 quarts from a single recipe. But, with that being said I don't ever take any time to fluff up my CV when I make tubs so it's likely packed and compressed when I'm scooping it out.
Even if we split the difference and call it 14 quarts of substrate that's nearly a 1:3.
So, after we worked through all that just run it like a normal cube apparently

Interesting... the last time I prepared CV, I did a 650g brick, 2qt verm, 4.5qt water, and I came out with 8 quart jars of sub. Where did I go wrong?

I'm not even so sure you did go wrong. I think the brand and quality of coir makes a big difference. Conveniently, I need to prep some coir tonight so I will prep a double recipe per usual and measure it out for y'us.
I've had volume discrepancies in the past with other peoples recipes so I think there are a lot of variables.
To be completely honest though I just make a lot of CV at a time paying no attention to '1 brick for this tub' or anything. I make it all up ahead of time knowing what ratios I want to use, throw it in a tub with a gasket, seal it up and use it as needed. Prepped CV doesn't go bad. It may dry out a little bit but you can absolutely prep it ahead of time.
I'll report back with my volumes, but your mileage may vary.

Well, shit. It may be a little while before I report my volumes I just realized that I am out of vermiculite. I thought I had a little bit left.
edit: fuggit I'll just get some locally instead of ordering

Okie dokie that took a little longer than I thought but here we go:
1300g dry coir, 4 quarts vermiculite (more coarse than usual but it's all I could get locally, I'd consider it 'medium'), 2 gallons water*
From this doubled recipe I wound up with approximately 22 quarts of prepped CV. I think the coarse vermiculite holds more water than the the fine grade I usually use so I ended up having to add an extra 1.5qt water.

Ah ok. I guess you're estimate was right then. Maybe I used more fine verm or something. I'll plan on 1:3. It's going to be a while I think. The mycelium grows slower even on agar.

I have grown Enigma and TW2 and had no issues with using the same ratio of sub to spawn. I can't say I maximized the potential of the spawn but I did have plenty of fruit weight
This was a not yet mature TW2 tub

I wouldn't grow either again because it is a pain in the ass to harvest.

Holy shit dude!
Question though... how do you know when to harvest?

Usually the fruits will start to bruise/blue once they are at full maturity. There is one fin in the pic I shared that shows you what I mean if you enlarge it.
I would wait until around 60-70% of the fruits are expressing some bruising to harvest.
