Bacteria within the mycelium?

The second plate with more growth seems like it has bacteria right? It must’ve been within the mycelium because I took a transfer from a plate that I thought was ok. It isn’t growing out in an even circle. Is it because some mycelium is tomentose and some is rhizomorphic? And how does the first plate look so far? I guess I have to grow it out a bit to see if the same thing happens. They are both cuttings from The same agar plate.

There’s something going on in plate 2 not sure what it is but there’s also good mycelium to select from for transferring. Plate 1 is looking good. I suggest more transfers but this time take much smaller samples from your donor plate.

Thanks. Yeah I will see how the first one goes and take some more samples. it’s weird how they are growing together kind of. The mycelium and the bacteria.

The rizo growth on plate two looks real nice and with a transfer or two could probably turn out to be a very nice plate. I’d get some transfers now and just re wrap these plates and let them continue growing.

Neither, just a few different sectors that can be transfered and isolated 👍

So the other white growth is tomentose mycelium growth( or whatever the word is)?
Why is it not growing out evenly then? That’s why I assumed it was bacteria. I just made like ten plates and they all seem like they are doing this a little. So you are saying to isolate the rhizomorphic growth so the whole thing is rhizomorphic? How can you tell if it’s bacteria? It grows faster?
I’ve had bacteria grow in a plate and there was a clear line where the mycelium and bacteria met. They didn’t want to mix. That was my question. Can bacteria grow with mycelium? And is this bacteria and if not what is it?
I could’ve sworn I have heard bacteria can become embedded in mycelium.

It’ll grow right over some bacteria, I’ve taken slides from perfect looking plates from cultures that put out canopies and there were bacterial cells within it if I looked hard enough. Maybe some bacteria doesn’t culture well in grain and grain concentrates like malt? Also I’ve made several slides from plates that will throw weak looking tomentose sectors with In rhizo form all around it and wasn’t able to find any contaminants within that. Sometimes sectoring happens just because of the cut of the transfer, like where the blade makes a nic, or if it’s square you’ll get a different type of growth from the corners of the cut. Even mon mon crosses will sector like that, and you can’t get a straighter line than mating two monokaryons together. Could also be inconsistencies in the agar too. What you got looks like it’s from the cut. But if you’ve got access to a compound scope make a few slides and take a look.

Alright thanks so should I be cutting in a circle then? I’m gonna definitely make some more transfers. I have two fully colonized plates in the fridge from about a 6 months ago and I was thinking to make some transfers from them so they don’t dry out. The growth is definitely a little strange. Maybe it will look more normal as I let it grow out. But I don’t wanna put a plate to a grain jar unless it’s looking really good

You should be trying to grab a small piece about 3o clock on that second plate

Yeah for sure. I’ll let it grow out a bit first

Grow out a bit first? Your looking for a tiny piece. If you grab a piece now your that much further ahead on your next plate and you still have that plate as backup.

Yeah I just ran out of agar plates for the moment. So I’ll take some this week when I have more. Now that I let it grow out. I think it’s just tomentose growth. I can see it bruising blueish. I have like nine plates all growing like this so I’ll have a lot of options to grab from.
