Commercial growers. How do you ENSURE the pinset is positioned properly?

I am very demoralized right now. I feel like every other aspect is more or less dialed in, as in, healthy large mushrooms grow from the pins I do get. But the problem is that I seem to have 0 control over where and how the bags pin.
Ideally they should pin very densely along where the bag was cut? Yeah, it doesn't matter. They'll pin a little bit there, and then all around inside the bag and I'm left wondering if I have to play whack a mole and cut all around these smaller pin clusters so energy isn't wasted on them. Ultimately, my yields are fucked and so are the bags for subsequent flushes.
Does anyone have any advice or tricks on how to make sure the pinsets are consistently occupying the space where the bag was cut, and not anywhere else?
I'm growing a scoreless oyster variety if that makes any difference.

Cut the opening at day 10 and forget about it.
There's no time or reason to worry about a few or a lot of side pins. They will abort and the fungus will figure out the best place to grow shrooms (the opening where there's oxygen)

smokedtrolli I feel you. I think it might be strain related, some does that more than others. I run sporeless (spoppo) too and this happens to me quite a lot. But it didn't always happen this much, not sure why it's more frequent these days.
I've heard before the advice deadmandave gave you but it's not always that straightforward in my experience. I've tried that too but it can even lead to a situation where I get practically no fruit at all and very heavy growing inside the bag. I mean it's not a few side pins, it's like a pound of mushrooms growing inside the bag while I get next to nothing. I suppose they do get bigger without aborting since I use perforated column bags. Maybe it would find it's way to the cut too eventually, but no way in time since there's new bags coming in on a schedule. This all might be very different with filter patch blocks.
I have no real solution for you, I just make more cuts where I start to see heavy development (I go in on a certain day to make cuts when they're small enough. It's not ideal but works ok.

Glad you can commiserate, I feel less alone in the struggle. I'm going to try to make smaller cuts in the bags and hopefully that will reduce the chance of air getting through and around the bag.
As far as the Day 10 thing, I hadn't heard that, maybe I'll give it a shot, I was moreso eyeballing it based on when the bag seemed mostly colonized but before it started to pin in the bag.

Get better genetics
If you're trying to make money doing this you can not skimp on genetics. This trips up a lot of new growers. It's crazy to put in that much work and not maximize your results with shitty genetics. Spend the money! Don't buy lc's off goobers on ebay. Buy properly cared for solid genetics off reputable vendors. Maine cap n stem can't be beat in this department
Also give up on the spore less oyster. It's a pipe dream

One thing to watch out for: If you're eyeballing your colonization and putting bags that are not fully colonized into fruiting, it might cause the surface of the substrate to still grow and stick tightly to the bag after you've cut your bag. Leading to no airflow to the cut and thus the bag doesn't pin there. But in 10 days it should be colonized, some (like me) wait for 14 days to be sure (and it fits my schedule better).

Can you elaborate on why and how the sporeless oyster is a pipe dream? I make my living out of it and haven't had a problem. Cleaning is a breeze, no problem if I harvest a day late, no replacing fans, filters etc. No masks or health hazards. It's been just great for me.

I tried several different sporeless strains years ago and none of them came close to the yeild and speed of something like 8801 or po-cns I'm running highly supplemented sawdust and you're running straw so I'm sure our results will vary. You won't see the maximum potential of a strain like po-cns on straw

Allright, that makes sense. Not sure if we have the same sporeless strains here in EU that you have in the US. But might be that none of the sporeless strains yield as much. Speedwise I'm happy since it finishes in less than 2 weeks in fruiting so I get a nice weekly cycle. And yeah can't really compare our results. Maybe the sporeless don't yield as much or be the fastest, but it definitely has its benefits too and I've built a succesful business on it so I must say a pipe dream is a bit of an exaggeration.

I've found if you harvest when you should they barely put out any spores. Pink oyster being the exception. Fuck pink oysters lol
