    #2862163 - 07/06/04 07:11 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

would it be helpful or necessary to add a little bit of lime to my 70/30 coir verm casing mix? if so, about how much by volume?

no need to do so IME
the pH of verm/coir is pretty close to 7 if i remember correctly
but if you make up a 'control' casing
(ie casing of the same size with same strain in the same envrioment with the same casing layer but no lime)
that would be an interesting thing to read

That would be LOW pH. (3-5)

And btw, coir also is slightly acidic, depending on the source it has a pH from 5-7.

Sounds like it may be a wise idea to test and then correct the pH. If your casing is above 7, most the acidophiles will not even think about touching your casing. I've heard of cubie mycelium racing even when the substrate was up near 10. Squuze me while I personify mold spores....

True, a good source of coir with a balanced PH is from hydro shops.

I've never noticed a difference in results though.
