Micro dosing for postpartum depression while breastfeeding
    #28621580 - 01/14/24 10:10 PM (12 days, 21 hours ago)

Hi!

I'm a mother who currently struggles with postpartum depression and anxiety.
I also breastfeed my 7 mo.
I have been looking into medication such as Lexapro, as was recommended by other moms struggling with similar issues but I feel like micro dosing could be a much better option.
I have used micro dosing to help treat my husbands depressive episodes with great success.
My main concern is doing so while breastfeeding. Certain medications used to treat postpartum complications such as depression and anxiety can be safe for use while breastfeeding and supposedly have no effect on the baby.
Psilocybin can increase serotonin production in the brain and serotonin can supposedly inhibit milk production. So I am concerned about "drying up" and not being able to breastfeed.
On top of any possibility of effects on my baby from any psilocybin passing through breast milk.
But I also feel like this may be a safer option than some medications such as an SSRI and I am worried about ongoing issues at this point with my mental health.
I have done some research into new mothers and peyote and how that, in traditional native American uses, was used to help with milk production and postpartum depression. But obviously these are two very different plants.
Does anyone have any specific resources or experience they could share?
Thank you.

I am 100% in support of microdosing postpartum and during breastfeeding. Your mental health is so important and key to the wellbeing of your baby. I wish I had known more of the benefits before suffering mental health issues with both of my pregnancies.

I’m going to DM you a link because I’m not sure if we’re allowed to do so per shroomery rules but, it’s a wonderful support and resource for mothers regarding mushroom use while pregnant and nursing.
