Tbh I’ve seen more than one person have their journey down the rabbit hole kicked off by psychedelic use.

Psychedelics without a foundation cause people to experience that. The foundation people have always had is a social one. The substances have been used by people for exactly the purpose of healing their society since before recorded history. It is all propaganda that says anything but that about it.

My dad had a buddy with a ranch and a big ol chocolate lab. The dog would sometimes disappear into the hills for a week or more at a time and dude would always be worried that he wasn't coming back. After a while the local coyotes seemed to be getting larger with abnormal brown fur and the mystery of wtf the dog was doing was solved.

With today's flat screen tvs

I know psychedelics aren't physically addictive. I used to love them but, for the last two years mushrooms give me extremally negative physical sensations even as I lowered the dosage, so I quit probably forever. The third guy in that airliner cockpit tried to turn the engines off because of weird shroom reaction. Two weeks ago I got in an argument with friends, me (pro gun control) and the other two all 2nd Amendment. But one of them told me an hour earlier a story about being in the shower on shrooms and calling the police and telling them they better come and get him before he blew his brains out with a pistol.
I'm not buying the clear line between pschychadelics and other drugs, even the physically addictive ones. The latter have more potential harm, but some people can handle both or one or the other, and some people can't handle any intoxicant.

As I age, I have to admit the comeup on mushies is not pleasant at all, but it seems I can still break that seal. LSD on the other hand, no fucking way, somehow that shit is now scary AF... my last experince was absolutely evil.

If you embrace that the experience may just go sideways really badly, I find it happens less. I've never had a truly bad experience though, some with lots of weirdness and many with tremendous anxiety, but all tolerable at the minimum. Did freak out a bit last summer at Fenway Park when the mushies hit harder than expected. Got obsessed I lost my car keys, but I left them at the hotel.

I suffered a very intense psychic attack on dmt.
I have ptsd now in regards to dmt I can barely force myself to smoke it.
Only time I had bad trip on shrooms was when it came from questionable growers with questionable intentions. Mine are fine.
Acid I haven't done since 2016ish but my last trip I took way too much and forgot who or where I was. All concept of self melted away. The visuals leading up to that were crazy though.

When I think about the 2024 election, the top three contenders are Biden, Trump and Nikki Haley. These crazy ass right wingers don't even realize that they are their own undoing. I think Biden can beat Trump again simply because there's people like me out there with a brain who realize that Trump is far worse than Biden. Personally, I think Biden is a good guy and he's had some effective policies. I'm still not wild about the guy. But if they could manage to flush Trump down the toilet and it was a Biden/Haley election, I think she could easily beat Biden. They'd have a republican in the White House. Of all these republican contenders, Niki Haley seems like she has at least a lick of sense. I'd also vote for Biden over DeSantis. That guy is worse than Trump.
At the end of the day, none of these people work for us. The American people. A couple of them, Trump and DeSantis, are wanting to drag us into an autocracy. I do think that we are on the verge of collapse though. If we're still a democracy at the end of this decade, I'll be shocked.

There are plenty of people that hate Trump, that will still vote for him. Alot more in the closet, as well.
Although the rule of law is important (and will develop some interesting case law, here), there is more than that going on with the prosecution of Trump. I don't know if I buy the argument that said prosecution has only created a bigger monster out of him, but one things for certain, he has been able to utilize it with his base.

I think that’s quite pessimistic, if not realistic. I do think our democracy will be intact at the end of the decade. Because I think this is the testing phase. We’ve had a democracy for a while now. It’s starting to lean towards socialism. So the right wing extremists are trying to cause an uprising or another Period of change. To throw it weight around and make sure that doesn’t happen. But it’s happening. I don’t think there’s anything they can do about it. Their insurrection was a failure. They killed a couple people. But they didn’t do anything except put boots on desks.
So they need to just accept that their world is changing. Things are going to move in the left. And that’s probably for the best. Right now this is a tantrum being thrown by racist children trying to say things need to go back to the way they were.
We’re not going to capitulate to a tantrum. So it’s going to happen. At least that’s how I view it.

It honestly feels like the more of a tantrum the Republicans have. The faster the timescale gets for when socialism will start happening. If there’s another insurrection when Donald Trump loses the election again. I feel like that will shorten the amount of time by 10 years that we will start seeing socialist Policy. Versus maybe 20. The more they try to fight against this and break all the rules to give themselves all the power. The more they’re going to convince people to go away from them. They’re scaring people away from the gop. I know Republicans lifelong Republicans too. They are questioning who to vote for. Because it’s just that blatantly bad. I think we’re gonna get a chance to get ranked choice voting pretty soon. Then the electoral college system is probably going to go away. We won’t have to deal with this kind of crap in the future.
But for the time being yeah, there is an actual test. If we fail this test, we’re not going to be a democracy anymore.

I think you're confusing things you would like to happen with things that are happening/will to happen soon.
1) this is a republic, not a democracy 2) the political center has been drifting right, not left, since at least 1980. 3) ranked choice doesn't have much mainstream support yet 4) getting rid of the electoral college would require a constitutional amendment. Not saying that can't happen but I don't see the political will for it with either party. Maybe someday?

I’m just saying that all this Q nonsense. Donald Trump giggling about making a dictatorship. I feel like it’s definitely going to alienate people from Republicans. I think that will push forward the agenda that I was describing. I don’t see it happening in our lifetimes. But I definitely see us getting rid of the filibuster in the next decade or so.

Biden is doing absolutely awful in the polls. He has significantly less support than he did in 2020. If the election were to be held today, and it was held fairly, he would lose.
That makes sense because now that people know what a Biden presidency actually is like (and how shitty it is) he is hemorrhaging support. In 2020 a lot of people just voted for Biden because he wasn't Trump without having any idea what they were signing up for.
He's losing support because of what they did to the economy, the absolute hilarious failure that is Neocon foreign policy, unchecked migration which negatively effects everyone. On top of that Biden is alienating his own base with his unconditional support for genocidal Israel. Oh the irony.
I can't fathom why you think Nikki Haley is the best repub candidate. She is one of the worst. She made a fortune worth tens of millions thanks to her ties to Raytheon and it is abundantly clear she is more of the same. Like a female GW Bush. She's just another brainless, sellout, Neocon puppet politician who can't wait to enrich herself and the military industrial complex by starting some new war somewhere the moment she takes office.
Get ready for the Trump presidency round 2. Even more hilarious and entertaining than the last!
