21 days without weed. Having scary vivid dreams 1

So I've been a daily stoner since I was 19 and I'm 29 now the 24th of December was my first day without it I'm on day 21. Had a difficult time with insomnia and I've started dreaming again oh my God my dreams feel completely real and are so intense I'm constantly waking up throughout the night covered in sweat and panicking almost nightmarish dreams. I can't remember the last time I had a dream I think there's 10 years worth of them have just come flooding in I remember them so vividly. My friends and family are in all of them and there's always something terrible happening to either myself or someone I love. How long will the likely go on for or is this just how my dreams are going to be from now on? The dreams are so intense they keep waking me but I'm so tired I fall back asleep right back into the dream and the pattern continues all night long.

When you are a heavy marijuana user you stop having the capacity to dream Non-rem sleep dreams. This may be part of the process of you catching up on some of that dream process you weren’t able to do. It’s temporary & won’t last forever. You’ll hit equilibrium eventually. As long as you don’t smoke too consistently. This shouldn’t be an issue in the future.
Maybe start a dream journal.

That's great to hear thanks. I was planning on having a smoke at 5 or 6 six weeks as a reward then going another month or so maybe just get high several times a year at most not like my usual every day. That's a good idea it's alot to remember so writing some of it down might help me notice any recurring patterns

About a year ago I quit smoking weed as well and I started around the time you started.
Same story here, very vivid dreams, but I kind of enjoyed them, even when they were scary. Some of these dreams were very DMT like in nature. Very psychedelic. Anyway after 2-3 months my dreams and sleep patterns "normalized".
Edit: just keep in mind that you very quickly fall back into old consumption patterns.
At some point in my life I quit cannabis for four years. Then I decided to smoke some during weekends only to combat work related stress. That did go well for a few weeks. Then one day it seemed to be a good idea to also smoke some on a Wednesday, because why not? That went well for another few weeks. Then finally I decided why not smoke again every day? I'm not saying that's a bad thing to do, but it's easy to fall back into old patterns.

If being clean off weed is OP's goal, they'll be fine. Those dreams subside at around the time frame you are referring to. I wouldn't be surprised if they're completely normalized after 28 days.
I tried to quit weed. I just severely cut back. Seems like a waste of money, but I'm always stressed, so I buy more weed.

Buying weed seems like a waste of money. Growing your own weed is a fun and rewarding hobby. To me, it feels more acceptable to spend money on my hobbies, rather then just spending it on droogs.

I am saving towards that goal. I don't have quite enough scratch to get there just yet. I did cut back by about 70%. I can see the results in my bank account, which is nice. Finally... doing a bit more than treading water
