Can you inoculate a fruiting block with lc instead of of lc to grain bag to block and would there be any difference?

You can.
The difference is that with 'G2FB' you will give the mycelium a better jumpstart (because: more volume of mycelium to start with).
Also a difference is when no (good) flow hood or SAB is available, that a good LC injection has less chance of contamination, when compared to G2FB.

I just did this BY ACCIDENT. A week ago. Had the bags side by side in the SAB. I injected with a red reishi LC I received from a vendor. I can show you a picture of what's going on in the bag ATM. I'm prepared for it to get contaminated, but fingers crossed its possible for it to take it over. I've had success in the past with transferring a chunk of a spent block to a fresh block for reishi, and I've seen other have success but I'm letting it go just to see what happens *shrugs*. So far just a small apple sized fluffy white mass in the substrate. Since it doesn't have the bonus of the grain for an energy source , I'm pretty sure it'll be slow to colonize, but I'm holding out hope! I will keep updated on this morbid curiosity experiment and post pictures. .

An update ! Ita still colonizing the bag. I can feel the mycelium in the center I'd say it's about the size of a softball .

A 1 week later update. I'm sure I'm running off of luck that It was able to get a good start without grain, but the reishi is still tearing through this block. Hopefully I can put it into fruiting conditions soon.

I didn't expect it to grow at all without grain! I'm excited to try and fruit it and see if the yield will be different without starting on grain.

you could also always shake up the substrate since there is more myc grown now and this would increase your coverage.

It's super dense! I'm worried about ripping the bag trying to break it up but it's been interesting to observe. Like it's really a hard solid chunk in there.

ok then the reishi is probably having no problem doing its thing. awesome. enjoy the show. these are fun to watch grow, and you can let them go for a loooong time.

Thanks for engaging with my post! I'll keep updating it, it's my first grow with reishi starting from LC. It's fun to see how FAST this stuff is taking over. I keep it in a nightstand that has a seed heating mat on top. The drawers below have been a perfect spot to stay 75-80 degrees. Another week and I'll post another update
When you say let it go , do you mean the spawn bag can sit for a long time before putting into fruiting conditions, or that once I give fruiting conditions u can just set and forget? Mush ❤️

i mean that once you have them growing antlers, you can leave them to grow for quite a long time. i think i let mine grow for about 3 or 4 months. they're the most bizarre mushroom i've ever grown. beautiful and interesting.

Ive seen them grown so long the antlers start growing together and apart like a lattice! It's super cool. 👌

It took about a month for mine to colonize completely, I didn't start on grain, I'd love to see and compare the growth rates if you'd be willing to share pictures and timelines of your reishi.😇

These are my two bags at the moment. i think it will need one or two more weeks before fruiting. The bag is now 9 days old and spawn needed 16 days to fully colonize. As spawn ive used ryegrain and my substrate is 40% hardwoodchips 40% hardwooddust and 20% wheat bran

How exciting! Ours are close in age, I can't wait to see how they grow out compared to each other. Your bags look like they're tearing it up
