When I was eating hot sauce on stuff the most, it started giving me hiccups every time even if the heat wasn't that bad, so I laid off since then

Did you know there’s a cure of hiccups?

No but I've heard of at least one person killing themselves over relentless hiccups

That cure sounds a bit extreme

These African guys on the boat told me to hold my nose and lean forward when I was hicupping, or at least something similar and it worked! They said it opens your airway or something

A spoon full of sugar or honey or maple syrup works 100% of the time like magic. One of the most pleasant remedies there could possibly be.

Probably the same principal. It’s a pressure issue.

Damn that's wild.
RIP...I feel for his fam.
I'm curious what the actual mechanism/cause of death was though. The article mentions the cause has yet to be determined. Also mentions capsaicin potentially causing heart-rhythm issues in some folks which is one thing that came to my mind.

Learyfan said: Paqui is having a bad year. I used to mail order around 32 bags of their Haunted Ghost Pepper chips, because they don't sell them in the stores around here now. Well they no longer use the same distribution company and haven't replaced them with another one. So I have no way of getting my Haunted Ghost Pepper chips now.
I can't believe you guys said One Chip Challenge wasn't that hot. I was absolutely miserable when I ate it. I wanted to put a bullet in my head because of how hot it was and I have a higher tolerance for hot food than anyone I know.

I love those Haunted Ghost Pepper chips from Paqui! For me those are the perfect level of "spicy", exactly the sort of level of heat/burn I'm looking for when it comes to chips/snacky foods.
The first bag of those I ever bought I almost ate the entire bag in one go lol. The flavor of the ghost pepper/chip is really good and that burn keeps me reaching for another chip.
I haven't tried the "one chip" though. I imagine it's substantially hotter/more intense than the ghost pepper chips.

I agree insofar as behavioral tolerance may be concerned... I can handle a lot of heat "in the moment". But (butt) physically, if I'm turning up the heat, and particularly if I'm consuming high spice loads in combination with alcohol, I'm all but guaranteed to have a 3am shit, and likely a 5am and 7am three-peat of the shituation.
It's the spicy pewps I can do without, and what typically keeps me in check with regard to what I'm shoveling in my face.
But I do love the hot stuff!
Never done the Paqui, had my time with extractives and all that... I don't really care for JUST heat, I want some flavor.
On that note, these calabrian peppers are super fruity and quite hot, very good on pizzas and pastas
I too seem to have developed more "tolerance" of sorts to capsaicin/spice over the years.
Either I'm just "used to it" combined with actually desiring a good burn/rush, and/or there is actual tolerance/less sensitivity to the cap which I feel is likely going on because I've seen videos of big pepper/hot heads munching down absurdly high levels of cap in various forms and not having much issues lol.
I have a relatively high tolerance to cap/the burn, far more so than any of my friends/fam, but munching on even a raw habanero will have my head ringing...with that said, part of me really enjoys the intensity/burn lol.
I have ate around 1/2 of a ghost pepper several times...That's where I draw the line lol. I certainly have curiosity about the reapers, but nah lol. A couple of the times I ate ghost peppers, the most uncomfortable aspect for me was actually this very peculiar pain I would get in my ears/internally like the inner portion of the ear canal. It was a throbbing sharp pain, I've never felt such a thing in a such a place before.
Over the years of consistently having capsaicin in my daily diet and periodically eating some super-hot stuff, the spicy poop/butthole burn is far less pronounced for me now...I do remember those ghost peppers on their way out tho lol.
I've had calabrian peppers in a few pasta-sauces, super bomb! Great flavor and def bring some heat.
And I think someone else mentioned it in the thread...but raw/fresh hot-peppers def get my stomach a bit knotted and cramped up. A few years ago I grew some "Sugar Rush Peach" peppers, some of them were far richer in capsaicin than others and one day I plucked one off the plant and it had me fuuucked up. Having ate a few the days before that were milder I was not expecting the wallop of heat, had me pacing around my backyard not knowing what to do with myself while my stomach had some gnarly pains/knots going on.

I think those things would probably give me a panic attack. Maybe even shallow my breathing.

I find that chewing long & slow until the chili is no more than paste before swallowing makes things far more comfortable the following morning.
