I had way more condensation issues when I would seal my dishes. Now I use ziplock sandwich bags to store 4 plates at a time and only really deal with condensation when there are large temperature swings in my room
Damn I may have to try this

I do this but it definitely doesn't take hours, I pour while still very hot with a good glove directly from the PC then leave the lids off to cool, I use a laser thermometer to check the temperature and within 15min they are gelled and cooled to the same temperature as the inside of the hood then I put the lids on and use straight away, I have no condensation at all. Here's an image of 20 plates cooling.

Very nice! 😁 I’m down to almost no condensation with my condiment cups. Probably 95% of them but my shits nearly solidified while finishing my pours lol. Once I get my ffu, this will be something worth playing around with

Testing vendor lc on agar. This doesn't look quite right to me. Should I transfer and see?? Where would you take from?

Should I transfer this one more time or send it sometime next week after it has grown some more?

Nice plates man! I think I'd send the plate from the rightmost picture but it's a little unclear because of the wrap.

So im trying something new I have a really nice hepa filter so I’ve never needed to work with liquid cultures but I’m kind of curious how fast things will colonize using a liquid culture Anyways, I made up my first liquid culture today, and I added food coloring to it because I have noticed the mycelium eat the food coloring and that gives me a good indication when everything is fully colonized and being able to keep things sterile from the heap filter. I don’t have to notice contamination.

Second generation plate pin question:
Hi All! So I had a plate pin that everyone said to clone I tried microsurgery and it didn’t go so well I wound up just putting a part of the cap and a part of the stem on agar And what do you know? They grew! And there’s another pin!
So my next question is: Do I do the same thing again? (Try to clone the pin and a piece to new agar?) If you’d take a piece to new agar where would you take from? Thanks for any feedback!, as always!!

Hello! Yes, plate pins are wonderful little things to work with in the future, leave microsurgery to the surgeons. As you found out you can simply pluck the pin off the plate with your scalpel/tweezers, place it on a new plate and mycelium will grow from all around it! From there, simply take a clean transfer piece and put it to another plate or LC if you are absolutely certain it is clean.
If I were you I would take a transfer piece from the thick rhizo growth on the left side of your 3rd picture. Just a small piece to a new plate and let it grow out. That plate has a LOT going on with it - not all of it good. But that's my suggestion. Transfer from the obvious rhizo on the left side and go from there

hello everyone, I'm trying to grow for the first time and i bought a liquid mycelium syringe of mckennaii and i put it in some PDA to see if it was clean and this is the result after 4 days.
this is the under side of the "plate", it has a faint pink/orange color that is not visible from the top side.
this is one of five poured cups and all look the same, 10 days before this i did another 5 cups with the same results, i throw those and started over thinking it was my technique. i use a SAB to inoculate and i left one cup open the entire process to check if the contams were inside the SAB and that one is clean, not a single spot of contamination on that cup. the agar was left 7 days after poured to make sure it was clean before i do anything with them. the cups are stored in a modified monotub with temp control at 26°C (78.8°F)
So the question is: is this contamination? should i try some water agar maybe? or perhaps lowering temp would help?
PS: english is not my fist language, have mercy with my grammar. PS 2: im from Argentina, so if there are some Argentinians message me, im having a really hard time finding basic materials for the hobbie.
thank to everyone for sharing your knoledge

Trying is more than a lot of people do so you're at least one step ahead. Let's get you across the finish line

Ew take a transfer from the normal and uniform growth, there's a ray extending from the transfer piece straight up to 12 o'clock. Take a small transfer from there.

Same story, only 9 o'clock.

Is this an LC test plate? Doesn't look terrible. I would take a transfer from the leading edge of the band of mycelium oriented from like 1 o'clock going towards about 8 o'clock but I would focus my efforts on the right half of that plate...does that make any sense? I didn't think so I'm too lazy to edit a picture right now...you any good at Algenbra/Trig/Calc? lol what a stupid question...nobody is..I would transfer from (0,8), (1,9), (2,10)

I don't have krinkle brain yet so feel free to send me this plate, I'll clean it up and send you a clean one Or you could get the satisfaction of doing it yourself and take transfers from the leading edges of (8,-1), (9,-2)

Nice. Transfer from pretty much anywhere on the bigger colony in Quadrant 1. But, I like the leading edge from 9-12 o'clock the most. Like I said though I think anywhere will do for that one.
[url=https://files.shroomery.org/files/24-003/554290859-DA9C6FD1-398F-4842-A072-8692105C98D2.jpg][image]https://www.shroomery.org/forums/thumbs/24-003/554290859-thumb_DA9C6FD1-398F-4842

This is a crapshoot. Personally I think you're going to have a very hard time cleaning this one up. Try taking the smallest transfer you can from 6-7 o'clock and report back with what it looks like.

I would aim for about 10-12 o'clock, 3-4 and 5-7 o'clock.
Based on the growth patterns of your transfer plates and your (either) LC test or germ plates, it looks like you're still struggling with your sterile technique a little bit. Take the smallest transfer pieces you can. Move slow but deliberately - no wasted movements no extra movements. An old trap shooting coach of mind told me to pretend I was moving underwater when I was struggling to break doubles. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Doubles all day! I also sterilize my tools fairly frequently, wipe down my forearms with ISO as well as my gloved hands, obviously. I also wear a covid mask because I was noticing my breath would go into the armholes when I exhaled and caused me all sorts of stupid frustrations.
Hopefully I was some sort of help for you. If you've got any further questions just hollar!

Hi all. I’ve been growing out a number of strains on agar and a couple of them don’t look quite right to me. For example this plate

Maybe it’s just me but I feel like the strands should look more like this

Any thoughts? Thanks.
