One drop of real peppermint oil in the regular mister. Spray anywhere you don't want to see bugs. Fine on shrooms/sub/jars/tubs/houseplants
The stronger version works for mice

Tea tree is a whole different animal. One drop of tea tree applied to a 100lb dog's skin will cause paralysis.

I expect it is indeed so that you can get the eggs for free with you coco coir. In certain places on the internet people report this happening. With the expectancy it was egged during storage in warehouse, or something.
You inspired me! I will do an experiment starting next week with some differing variables, to find out whether my 3 kinds of coir have fruit flies in them. And whether my pasteurising kills them. In my current grow I found some fruit flies. Or gnats. I think fruit flies though. 3 or so (that I saw and RIP-ped with alcohol spray). Not sure where they came from. Can well be from somewhere else in the house!
googled: how long does it take for gnats eggs to hatch 4 to 6 days Fungus gnats go through complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult) and reproduce in moist, shaded areas within decaying matter. One generation takes about 4 weeks. Mated females lay 00 to 200 microscopic eggs. Eggs are oval, smooth, shiny white and semi-transparent, and hatch in 4 to 6 days.
googled: how long does it take for fruit fly eggs to hatch 12 hours Female fruit flies lay approximately 400 eggs, about five at a time. The eggs hatch into larvae after only 12 hours. The larvae then grow for about four days, before pupating for about five days, to emerge as an adult fruit fly. The females begin breeding after only two days.
googled: How long do fruit flies live: 40-50 days Despite the popular myth that fruit flies only live 24 hours, the average lifespan of a fruit fly is to 40-50 days under ideal conditions. During that time, female fruit flies can lay several batches of eggs, allowing the fruit fly population in a home to grow quickly.

Fungus gnats and fruit flies are different. My fungus gnats must of been mutants. They Lived through everything lol. *the outside ones*. It took weeks to even do dents and by the time I killed them all everything was dead anyways lol.
I honestly have some Strong bugs a lot of bugs live through things they shouldn't lol. I had a war with carpet beetles once lol.
damp surfaces , they reproduce so fast.
BUGS SO FUN>>>> My house has never been more sealed and clean since lol

Fungus gnats suck they can live in houseplant soil too if you have any of those you can use pesticide on the soil or diatomaceous earth, once they get into your substrate your screwed.
Or by the time you notice them they have already colonized your substrate as well
They aren't easy to kill and they not only eat it they contaminate it.
Plus yeah I would be worried about the length of time on that tub regardless

Going a bit off topic here, but I wanted to share i started a mini experiment, with 3 kinds of coco coir.
1A: brick brand 1, only cold water added. 2A: brick brand 2, only cold water added. 3A: ready bag, only a very little bit water added.
New insights also let me add a two sided sticky tape in 2A; if there is any bug flying around, I hope I will see it on there instead of hiding in the soil.
Edit: the containers have only coir in them, and no spawn. And they are pretty tightly sealed,so no little entrance holes.

Don’t let that sticky mat touch your sub or let condensation run down off it, I had contam spread out directly from them and ruin about 6 tubs, ended up just keeping them on the outside.

Ah, right. I forgot to mention it is 100% coir. No spawn added. Just for the sake of check on fly / mosquito eggs.
