Incubation Humidity level/effect on mycelial growth
    #2861658 - 07/06/04 04:27 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Hi all. I innoculated my rye pint jars about 5 days ago. I checked them today and there are some scattered wisps of mycelium growing here and there. I shook them up a bit, put them back. My temperature has been a bit low the past few days, but I've got a new heater and now it's getting up to where it needs to be.
My question is that the PF Tek FAQ says humidity past 70% RH isn't good as mold can form on the outside of the jars. Has anyone run into this? And does a higher humidity have other associated risks/problems?
My incubator is a tub-in-tub, but the inner tub is smaller, so that it's entirely contained inside the larger rubbermaid container. There're tyvek-covered holes (6) in both containers, and I noticed a bit of condensation on the inside of the inner tub. I wonder if this humidity level is going to be problematic? Anyone know? Thank you.

GB

i imagine everyone has high humidity in their incubators due to what you said, they have heated water sitting in the bottom. I know mine has enough humidity to probably fruit cakes. I doubt mold would grow that much on the glass jars, especially if you use H2O2 in your water

Try submersing your fish heater in a half gallon container (regular orange juice jug). Heats up the incubator nicely without adding alot of humidity.
