I think there should be a special internet by kids for kids that is heavily policed to keep creeps out, where kids can have a safe space to do what the like.
I think most of the issues kids have nowadays are made a lot worse by access to the current internet where you have all possible weirdness and large communities insisting that that is in fact completely normal.
The www is utterly unsuitable for minors, they must be protected against others, against themselves, against misinformation and against wrongful content.
its addictive, they dont play, they get fat and weird.
I'm fat and weird, i don't want that for them.

The law is not literally enforceable, unless the feral federal judge institutes an online ID.

This is truly the ideal internet situation. In stead of dark net , net light. Makes complete sense. Laptops specifically built for up to 16 years, and really that can add a different sweet 16 present idea.
There’s some stuff I saw on the free for all internet of the 90s at age 11 and up I wish I could take back. Shock stuff that is now burned into my brain and I wish I had never seen. There’s some horrible stuff out there. Horrible. Crazy to wonder if it would’ve changed the stuff I watched as an adult though…. Really this scenario of 16 year and below met could also just be useless, and no one can really say if a teenager would make the same mistakes and watch the same filth as an adult. Maybe some human brains like gore porn and some don’t?
The internet in general has become such a weird monster.

All of the traditional fairy tales -- from when we were allegedly traditional -- originally substituted special effects with gore and vulgarity. They were at least rated R. People generally used to be more violent, on Halloween, in gym class, sporting events, and in neighborhood disputes.
Blaming bans on social decay is an inept form of nostalgia for a time that never really existed, when you could be preparing kids for the law of the jungle.
But, when you try to prepare kids for the law of jungle -- lawfully -- the ones on raised naughty video games, etc. cannot stand exposure to jarring stimuli, irl.
The way we expect people to act is pop psychology and comes from movies, afaic. Our civility is as much a product of demoralization as our incivility.

Mehh, how would you even enforce a less-than-16-years-of-age ban on internet usage?
I think parents shouldn't let their kids have a personal cell phone until they are at least in high school... at least not a smart phone...

The problem with a kids only internet area is, you've now created a big neon sign saying KIDS HERE ----> What form of ID do you use to verify that they are under 16? Kids don't have drivers licenses. Is it even legal to take personal information from those minors to verify them?

Yeah, my teenagers have got "feature" (dumb) phones. It saves a whole lot of drama.

Utah just passed laws that social media companies must legally verify the age of their online users in Utah. https://www.natlawreview.com/article/beehive-state-joins-buzz-around-minors-and-social-media
Quote:
SB 152: Starting March 1, 2024 social media companies must (i) verify the age of a Utah resident seeking to maintain or open an account, and (ii) get parental consent before minors under 18 can open or maintain their current account. Existing users who do not verify their age within 14 days of trying to access their account must have their access denied. The social media company must give minors’ parents (or guardians) access to all posts, messages, and responses. These companies also cannot display advertising to minors. Minors also will not be able to engage in a variety of interactive activities -like direct messaging- to individuals outside their friend group. The law also requires for data minimization of information in minors’ accounts and limits the time of day that minors can access their accounts. Namely prohibiting use between 10:30pm and 6:30am.

here in Holland an adult Turkish guy went to prison for online bullying an American teenage girl to extort her into sending naked pics and willingly driving her to suicide "because she is a whore". She killed herself over that bastard. Adult guy.
It also is not fun for kids to get traumatized by the worst gore put on film, or caught up in some nihilist incel cult orbeing pommeled by mentally ill memes by propaganda agencies.
The internet is not suitable for teens. I think the shroomery would be more or less harmless but there is content out there that very much isnt, and that content attracts them deliberately for all the wrong reasons

Social media dangers effect mostly girls. Teenage girls can be a special sort of vicious mixed with naivety and sensitivity. When social pressures don't end when they are home alone in their rooms this can spiral out of hand and cause all sorts of difficulties, leading to low self esteem, depression and even suicide. And that's just if they are online with other girls, all sorts of exploitative harms can happen if they encounter men.
Not that there aren't dangers for boys as well, but it doesn't seem as pronounced.

I vaguely have some concept of letting nature take it's course.

Elvis Presley Supposedly Toured With Underage Girls https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/elvis-presley-supposedly-toured-with-underage-girls.html/

My grandma used to be part owner of a saloon in a navy town, where she could cuss out a drunken sailor, violently. (Detailed as a creative writer. ) She had an unusually large Steven Tyler kind of mouth. Like an enraged, nappy-haired muppet; Collected these VC Andrews books, religiously. The protagonist is always 15y/o. You always associate with the protagonist, not the wicked step mother. Her joke was that she is just a virgin.
irl, at that literal age, she had started a large family.
All of the people in these arguments are either mentally a child, or controlling access to fresh meat.

I'm not comfortable with Zuck or Elon having a copy of my ID. I wouldn't want ythan to have it either. Every site gets hacked and loses data, I dont want to get my identity stolen just to get on pornhub. No kids use my computer why should should someone's else's kids cause me to lose freedoms I have right now?
Your kids are your responsibility to police, but a determined kid will get by whatever barriers you put up. 14 year old me had a killer porn magazine collection, kids weren't allowed in the dirty book store but goddamn me and my friends found sources for old timey paper porn.

I am financially well off. Married with no marital issues, own stocks bonds and crypto I'm a diverse portfolio, own land and a home.
I attribute it all to all the gor, porn and even the shroomery from what I saw with my long lost and forgotten about account I made in 2001 or 2003 I forget. I was all up in that OTD back then with hanky tearing me a new one.

Ugh, I’m sorry Durian. Well, I thought his screen name was referring to the car. And he eventually asked me for my home phone number, which I gave to him. Luckily when he called I could barely hear him, there was so much static noise. A couple decades later all I really know is his intentions were beyond my understanding at the time, and I’m sure his recall of what had transpired is much clearer. I’m sure there were dozens more similar interactions, back in the a/s/l days… It is really scary knowing that of course this is happening to children but now with greater accessibility to communication, photos, videos, identity.
