Quitting smoking

Anyone else quitting this January? Any tips? I just recieved some bad news about my cholesterol and have decided to quit smoking. I may have had high cholesterol for a long time as I didn't get bloodwork done. I currently smoke about 8-10 a day. Planning on cold turkey when I run out, may vape a bit too for the first little while. I don't want to get sucked into vaping all the time either. I have about 15 smokes left. I picked up a weed cart to try and transition my joint smoking to that too. Im on cholesterol meds now. Wish me luck and take care fellow shroomerites.

Quitting smoking is one of the best things I've ever done. Though to be honest I've quit several times. My smoking is directly linked to my substance use so when I've relapsed in the past all my bad habits come out the woodwork. Smoking is the stupdest addiction though. Doesn't do anything for you and you just pay to be poisoned. It zaps your energy too once you get older. Try to replace it with exercise. Also, I've always quit easily with patches. They make cigarettes taste gross so just keep wearing them and you'll eventually stop.

Only thing that's ever helped me was replacing it with a real vape (as in not a cheap disposable).
Can't tell you how many times I've quit and picked it back up again within months, and those were the times I really, really tried. Usually I didn't make it 5 days.
I quit again about 2-3 years ago? Just vaped for the longest, no desire to go back. Then I started dipping again a month or two ago. I dunno when I'm gonna quit that again but it's not so bad with the vape. Mostly just miss the feeling of it in my mouth. The nicotine from a vape doesn't hit quite the same and I have to give myself a couple of days to adjust and then the cravings for cigarettes or dip start to fade, slowly, but they do.
Really it's all just down to willpower. Some people can just cold turkey that shit even if they're just as miserable as anyone else. Other people need a crutch. I have no qualms about vaping so I don't see the point in white knuckling it like that. Someone else might not want to just replace one with the other.
--------------------
With my face against the floor I can’t see who knocked me out of the way. I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today. Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear. I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear. You can't wake up, this is not a dream. You're part of a machine, you are not a human being With your face all made up, living on a screen. Low on self esteem, so you run on gasoline

if you quit and stay quit this will be one of the best years of your life.
Its so incredibly good to stop constantly poisoning yourself, not just with the substance butb also with the self defeating nihilism surrounding it.
I will pop in later

I smoked for over a decade a pack a day and quit. My only advice is just fucking do it, will be the best thing you have done in a long time.

Sucks to hear bout your cholesterol. Quitting cigarettes should help fix it. However, vaping nicotine won't be helping your cholesterol, though it probably is still healthier than cigarettes. I recommend quitting cigarettes and not picking up vaping. I just quit a two year cannabinoid vaping habit a month ago... I feel really good since then.

I recommend tapering it off instead of quitting cold turkey. It's easier on your mind and body.

As difficult as it seems, it's much easier to put up with the withdrawal effects from nicotine if you don't keep reintroducing nicotine into your brain. Within 3 days the physical cravings start to ease and within 3 weeks they're gone because the nicotine half-lives add up and for all intents and purposes there's none left triggering the addiction response if you just let yourself eliminate it, stop dragging the process out for multiple quit attempts over months or even years.

I just passed my 3 year quit date. When I chose to quit, I tapered down the rest of my tobacco. 3 cigarettes, then 2, then one, and when I had a day without smoking before the tobacco ran out, I just never picked it up again.
I had quit multiple times before without success, and smoked for about 15 years, give or take.

I quit over 11 years ago or so. Though I look back on some of those moments as a smoker with sentiment, I don’t miss it. Really smoke just makes me sick now, think my body truly got enough of that and really every morning I was waking up feeling literally poisoned. Was getting sick all the time and it took twice as long to recover because I was trying to smoke through it.
You have to embrace whatever suck is going to come from nicotine withdrawals, cause it will probably happen, but then it will go away. Embrace discomfort, shit will make you stronger. Challenge yourself to do it to say you did, and you’re done and not going back because you’re strong.
You got this.

this is completely my experience. resolute quitting to me is most successful. the addition to the habit is much greater than to the caffeine.
Lowest stress to me was JUST DOING IT after two decades of postponing.

I'm with Alyssa and Asante. Quit cold turkey. It sucks for the first 2-3 days, but it gets easier every day. After just a week, you're pretty much off the hook, physically, and it's just a matter of not slacking off.
Good luck and keep it up!

I am preparing for quitting. I quit in 2009 and picked up smoking cigars this past August. I need to stop. My watch showed how my resting heart, respirations increased. And it is so foolish of me to continue. Yet, I like it. I have to go outside to smoke LOL I need to find an alternative to taking a break. I am also preparing. I got nicotine gum and it makes me sick. Last time I quit I just stopped.Cold turkey and that may be what I do again. Im 80% there. I am ashamed I allowed myself to start doing it again on a regular basis. Very disapointed in myself.

Thanks for the ideas and support. I had 7 smokes yesterday. 1 so far today. Have 11 left I'm going to spread over a few days then it's on. Hit the THC vape pen already, nice and baked. Seems to help distract me.

Buy or grow organic marshmallow leaf or coltsfoot, add in dried clover flowers for sweetness or if you still want the kick of tobacco a bit of dried dogwood bark is great. Its kinikinik of a sort but thats probably a bit cultural appropriation. Just to know you can smoke something else is great when giving up, thats also not making ultra wealthy scumbag chemical touts wealthier like vaping. I did once hear of someone who kept a cigarette packet full of carrots and ate one when the urge arose but I cant vouch for that. Also drink shit loads of water, take hot showers and maybe calcium bentonite to help get toxins out of the body...

quitting smoking is my goal. I've been smoking for years, and I have some health issues, and it's better for me to stop as soon as possible. It's hard, and I don't know any tips, to be honest. I just try to smoke less cigarettes every day. I don't want to get vapes or something like like because it's even more addictive.

My tip is just to not pick up any cigarettes. If you don't pick them up you can't smoke them. Pick up a pen instead and write down how you feel.
