i've tried sucking out all the air from the bag using a vacuum sealer. i've sealed it with multiple wide seals using a very nice impulse sealer. i've even tried using an oxygen absorber. none of it helps. after 3-4 days, the bag still takes on air. but the seal is not bad. i can submerge the bag underwater and even squeeze it but it does not leak.
so what's producing the air? the only thing i can think of is some kind of microbe. but they've been dried for 24+ hours in a dehydrator at 160F so everything should be dead. wtf mate
I recall there was a Comparison test

A while back I started a thread for vacuum sealer nerds, link in sig.
My own findings were that normal food grade plastic bags allowed a shocking amount of water to permeate within a matter of weeks. You don't notice it if you seal food like leftovers or even dry goods like rice, but cracker dry shrooms will get bendy fast.
The rate of water getting in is proportional to the surface area of the bag. So a big bag with a small amount of dried fruit shows the problem much faster than a bag that is absolutely stuffed with dried fruit, because the fatter bag distributed the invading water to more places.
BTW, I didn't vaccum seal those test bags and crunch the shrooms -- they were just snug.
If tight bags are getting loose, based on my experience vac sealing lots of other things my guess is also micro-punctures or micro-seal problems, both of which are about impossible to see even with a bubble test... But they will mess up a bag over a few days.
Just my two cents.

That's fair. I also realized after posting this that I was talking about a vacuum vs positive pressure.

I use Zip Zags..non permeable..can heat seal them and you can suck the air out with a vacume.

Depending on fruit density/cap size, 2.5 gallons should do it. If you have a bunch of fully opened caps it may require more volume.

Hey folks, glad to see a bunch of new faces and some old. I'm back after a break because life things, a move and a baby, but back in the saddle. Just wanted to say hello to everyone and see what the hot new varieties are after some time away. Last I was around the various TAT genetics were all the rage, what's everyone trying to get their hands on these days?
Much love, glad to be back

I do 1/2 pound bags of shrooms and use the Zip Zag 1 pound bags. They have a 2.2 pound bag that would fit a whole pound of shrooms. Caveot is they have to be fairly dense strains to fit.

I did some G2G on Friday and I'm noticing something odd...
Donor jar is on the left, receiver on the right.
How come the receiver jar is recovering and colonizing vigorously while the donor hasn't even recovered?
This should be clean spawn, I didn't test the gran jar on agar but it came from a healthy agar dish.
The jar is probably bacterial I suppose, right? Although it didn't have bad smell it didn't smell like fresh mushrooms either... However, what I find weird is the fact that the new jar is at least colonizing, I had never experienced that before.
