This type of thought process is akin to not wanting a fire extinguisher.
You are literally not safe anywhere on planet Earth. Having a gun is a safety measure, like an airbag.
We are entering a phase, be it Europe or the US where interruptions in the flow of society can initiate periods of lawlessness and mayhem.
it's sensible to have some sort of weapon at this point to protect your home and those in it.
I have an online friend for like 15 years who lives in Poland, while I live in Holland. We share Germany as our neighbor. He has Ukraine as his other neighbor. War is close by, our countries are smaller than many US states.
Its sensible to have a means of home defense.
I do.
I'm all about the love and peace, but also very much about being left in peace by haters. I was victimized enough in my life to prefer going out in ultraviolence over getting taken out by some numb fck.

I don't think a firearm automatically makes you safer. I think it requires a lot of training and preparation. Like say an armed robber breaks into my house. Its not in their interest to kill me if I am unarmed, but if they see I'm armed, suddenly its very much in their interest to kill me. Then we can have a gun fight.
I think its very unlikely that someone will try to kill me and there will be a situation where having a gun and the training will help me.
Having a gun makes it more likely for people to kill themselves, and for domestic disputes turn into homicide.
I could see maybe for someone who trained in close quarters combat regularly, perhaps they might be safer, especially if they were a very stable person who never had thoughts or desires of suicide.
I think the time and energy spent training in CQB would be better put towards healthy eating, abstaining from alcohol, exercising regularly.
Yea, well, if a criminal breaks into a victim's property and the victim is willing to use lethal force, that's on the criminal for deciding their life is worth the shit inside the home when they are shot dead .
I have seen enough news stories of someone who looks like they'd die from a bad cold killing a criminal, they're definitely not training lol.
Why does every gun thread have someone show up that doesnt support the OP?
If someone posts a car thread, it's all car enthusiasts. Guns though, you always have one who needs to go against the original post lol

Based. I also am thinking about how times are getting harder and economies are collapsing further. I can totally see the USA turning into Venezuela in like 10-20 years where you can't even leave your home without a gun.
The reason there's always someone in a gun thread going against the grain (or against the rifle thread lol) is because it's a fearful topic with many many opinions and it doesn't help that the media perpetuates fear of guns with all the false flag shootings we hear about.
And yeah, I don't think anyone will ever breech my house. And when it gets to the point where I need to be worried about trespassers, I could probably just pay a security guard to do it for me.
My gun will probably be used more as a range toy and hunting gun more than it will get used to kill someone.
I'm actually more worried about looters when we have big riots but at the same time, I will be 45 minutes away from any suburban town so I'm not really worried about it.

I also have a mossberg 590 retrograde. Shit slaps hard; it looks so sexy and the 12g packs a punch. I also have a Glock 20 as my woods gun after I spent 4 nights walking around Grizzly scat in August 2021 in British Columbia. Good choice on the mossberg!

I just wanted a versatile gun that's not cheap but not too expensive either and has good features. I like the dark walnut wood, I like the location of the safety clicker, the hand action seems pretty smooth on all the videos I've seen, good for home defense, good for shtf scenario, good for hunting. What's the difference between the 500 and 590? I know it's more expensive which is why I wasn't looking at that one. How does the wood hold up to different weather and terrain? Is it glossy enough to withstand the elements?

I scooped up a Mossberg 88 recently. No regret, dirt cheap, working man's shotgun.

Neither of those are in the Constitution but it is my goddamn right at least in the USA to marry a man and actually I do need to find myself a damn husband.

There used to be provident farmers, under Communism, even in Ethiopia, who stored drought tolerant grains since times immemorial. It was called primitive accumulation, and it was a capital offense. The hoard would be pulled out into the street and burned.
So, prepping in liberal California is subject to the first rule of Fight Club.

Actually a lot more gays nowadays are starting to bear arms and buy guns to defend themselves. There's also groups of gay hunters that go out and hunt.

Tranny story hour was defended by their allies, snipers on adjoining rooftops. If you take these acts seriously or partake in them, don't use these people for bait dogs.

I'm just a normal gay guy. I'm not a tranny. I'm not one of these new wave "queers" that they have nowadays.

A creative, or the one who tracks toilet paper out of the bathroom, with the poorly tucked shirt, and who doesn't know how to shave?

Creative i guess. I'm not dirty or slobby. I shave my ass hole so the shit doesn't stick onto the hair, making me do twice the work when wiping.

There seems to be a moral dilemma in regards to what is necessary liberty vs. unnecessary libertinism.
A case of moral equivalences, in which preservation of one's physical person is on par with butt play.

Amongst the people in my circle that I've talked to and in general, if you're talking about guns with a group of people in texas, there's always going to be at least one person who talks about guns in terms of home defense. ALWAYS, someone will be the one to say, "Oh that doesn't sound like it would be a good home defense gun...yada yada.." or conversely, "Oh that sounds like a good home defense gun yada yada...."
People in texas are big on home defense and castle law. Even when I went to a gunsmith to talk about guns, there was an older guy looking in the shop who said, "oh that doesn't sound like it would be a good home defense gun yeeeeeeeeee bla bla bla" when we were talking about the Mossberg shockwave. The gunsmith said it was a fine gun though. And I said that it looks like it would be a fun range toy because it sounds enjoyable to shoot from the hips, like a video game gun. Get your stance tight and put a recoil strap on it.
