Not exactly what I expected from yungensis but here we are! About 1.5mo old LC LME/Peptone. Pulled syringes and inoculated some 4oz PF cakes

wavyedge said: Trying out sterilized subs in these takeout dishes:

- neoxalapensis - baeocystis - pan bisporus - pan cyan - semps
Across these substrates:
- Hardwood sawdust - composted manure - straw pellets + coir (2:1) - worm castings - starter mix (potting soil) - mulch - rye grass seed - Apple wood chips
All brought to field capacity (wood was soaked for a few days, rye grass seed was cooked as grain) as best I could.
I sterilized the substrates in jars as I would do grain, and from there on treated them as sterile substrates, (sterilized tools, work in front of hood).
maybe we find something neoxalapensis or baeocystis eats more readily. The semps and pans are for comparison. I also saved controls in case the 2hr PC wasn't enough.
The 'winners' were fully or mostly colonized in about 3 weeks.
Straw pellets, manure, worm castings seem to have done the best for neoxalapensis and baeocystis. I have neoxalapensis, baeocystis, as well as the comparison semps, pan bisporus, pan cyans as well that have mostly colonized the sterilized substrate.
So I decided to case with plain verm and move to fruiting...
Semps and pans:

Neoxalapensis:

Baeocystis (cold fruiting 13-15c):

It's hard to see the baeocystis mycelium on the substrate but there are light wispy strands throughout most of the sub. Neoxalapensis is also weaker than semps and pans are somewhere in the middle. In the interest of moving this forward I wanted to get more moisture in there with the help of some moistened verm.
Now I'm not really expecting anything to happen at this point and the experiment isn't really proving anything definitively. But I've got the fruiting room and it will be something to check on.

Nice, what's your agar recipe? I usually don't see those colors with neos but I saw before you do.
It's still a work in progress, but I've been hacking away on a fridge/freezer trying to get it into shape since I had the baeo find in Dec. Hoping to at least fruit the ovoids.

Per liter of water: 10g agar, 10g lme, 5g peptone, 50mg gentamycin
I noticed none of them come out pigmented in R2A agar (lower nute recipe) - I think it has something to do with the amount of nutrients in the recipe and possibly the temps they're stored at

Here's what most of mine look like:

So that's about half the lme and half the agar I'm using, and I'm not using peptone in this batch.
Temps are consistent 68-70f

Thank you! They look a lot different fruited outdoors, this same tub is the one that flushed a near full canopy indoors and the fruits looked different (they’re in the journal). Iuch prefer the outdoor fruited ones
That agar looks good so far! I transferted some dark pigmented neox and fagicola back to R2A yesterday to see if it takes off white and stays white. Yours does look very nice so far, maybe it’s the peptone? Still have some work to do and info to gather to isolate why these Cordisporae are tinting on some recipes. The gentleman who got (probable) pins on agar recently used just rice water and sugar, and his myc looks white

Ps hispanica (sequenced 100% fimetaria) pinning in a bag outside

Pf cake spawned to a bag on 10/31/23 with sterilized manure, coco, verm, worm castings, straw, and hemp. Cut the top off the bag and placed outside 12/8/23, one month later here we are! Temps 35-55 outside

Hells yeah. I waited a couple months for my last shoebox to pin before it got a weird surface mold so excited to see a relative time frame!

Nice, what is the greenish pigment? The first image in my signature is a wild collection of that species 👍

Cheap food coloring. I love brf pucks but these old eyes don't do so well with uncolored pucks for germ purposes. Love your sig pics btw. This finally gives me an opportunity to ask you what the lower left one is. Been driving me nuts.

So I don't know lol. This was just f'n around with a test sub, but now I'm at a cross roads. I threw a thin casing on it to help improve moisture content. The original goal was to put it into an outdoor pot with more sub. I have a few more jars almost colonized so now I'm thinking of trying a fruiting in the cold room I have this year. I moved all the wood lovers in there the other day to avoid the upcoming freeze but I can make room for this and some containers of colonizing chips. I didn't have any luck fruiting the last ones I had indoors, but I didn't have the cold room then either. I suppose it's worth a try.

It's about to get pretty cold here on the coast, so id say send it in your cold room.
