Cubes in cattle dung? Western Oregon
    #28615271 - 01/09/24 01:21 PM (18 days, 20 hours ago)

Western Oregon.
Cattle dung.
Golden brown color.
Sorry for low quality but this is a zoomed in pic. I cannot get more details without jumping a fence which I won't do. If these are potentially magic I will ask the neighbor about removing them, at which time I can get more of the details the forum guidelines ask about.

These would have had to started fruiting at about 38F. Was surprised to see anything there.

Below the cluster of 3 at the bottom there is another species - I think Petticoat mottlegill.

Not cubes. And I'm not even sure these are growing directly from dung, either.

Without more details my guess would be Agrocybe, by the plain look of them.
Protostropharia could also be a possibility, the can grow quite large.

they are definitely growing out of the dung.

but since they're not cubes - thanks for clarifying. I was kind of dreading talking to the neighbors about it anyway lol

edit - they're almost def agrocybe like you mentioned. I'm doubting they're protostropharia simply because I saw some other shrooms in the same field that look exactly like protostropharia and side by side they appear different than these. But I don't know much obv.

Not impossible for cubes to fruit given temps haven't remained at that point but I wouldn't be hunting them when your averaging anything below 60 for long. Even that area of temps is lower than ideal still.

Your id of the petticoat id say is good by what lil detail I can make out of your pic. She wears the skirt with the frilly bottom around the margin
