So, I think this is fully colonized?? I can already see some metabolites in the jars (3 at this stage, another 6 about a week behind).

I'm going to pasteurize some Jiffy Seed Starting Mix (at field capacity) to case the cakes, then put them in a version of the JCM FC (I don't need aquarium heaters... I can't keep the grow room below about 81 ˚F anyway...).
So, keep the cakes in the jars, remove the verm and add casing layer? And cross my fingers? Or any other advice to improve odds of success?
Gracias...

tl;dr: So, a question that I should have asked a LONG time ago: should I be dunking the fully colonized pan cakes overnight, then popping them back in the jar?
background: I knocked off the verm from my cakes, then cased the tops with pasteurized Jiffy Mix. I also took 1 cake and ground it up nicely, then mixed it with 1:4 hpoo:coir (pasteurized). Everything keeps looking very dry, even though I'm keeping everything in a jury-rigged JCM-style FC. Almost 2 weeks with nothing going. So, 2 days ago I cut off a piece of wax paper to put on the surface on my very small bulk grow - and today, I've got a pin. Now, I don't think the WP is a magic solution to the probem, more a tool that's pointing out the problem - maintaining moisture/humidity.
Basic science - only change 1 factor at a time unless you're into response-surface methodology stuff. Time to find a better way to keep the humidity high while the FAE is pumping through...

I have two plates growing some nice pan cyan myc, and I plan to make a slurry to inoculate some brf cakes and follow this Tek. My question is, are there any substitutes for gypsum and lime? It will be a hassle to get hold of them.

Can the peat moss in the casing be substituted with Coco coir? It is much cheaper and easier to find here.

Coir isn´t a replacement for peat. Pans like that final casing barrier, as with just coir myc rips wildly through and will tend to overlay, resulting in a big myc carpet. Myc should barely peek through.
Any chance you get hands on Jiffy mix?

Good luck finding Jiffy mix with peat in it anymore. For the last 2 years every bag of Jiffy I've seen they've started substituting coir...
Faht has a good recipe for a peat-based casing layer. I'll try and find the link. If I do I'll be sure to post it in here.
I mostly wanted to reply to this thread so I wouldn't lose it but it turns out I might actually be useful!

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll try and get some peat moss then,in any case, I can always order it! If a good alternative appears, then I'll give it a try too.
