Your BMI * 1
    #28613375 - 01/07/24 08:00 PM (20 days, 19 hours ago)

Im trying to lower my BMI, right now I am at 27, which is slap in the middle of the overweight range.  I want to lower it to 24.9, which is normal.

Some people's BMI doesn't really reflect their weight well, for example, maybe they are fit and quite muscular but their BMI says they are over weight.

What's your BMI?

Intermittent fasting plus being hella active. I've been doing that for years and years and I've never been overweight. Even when you are home just never stop moving. I never sit and watch TV and I only play video games in the evenings before bed and sometimes in the afternoon on my days off if I have nothing to do.

23.7 but I think BMI alone can be a meaningless metric...  if you work out a lot lol it's not even measuring muscle/fat ratio - Like i'm rather slim but have a decently built upper & lower body - yet apparently verging on 'overweight' :lolsy:

My bmi was 27.8, I wasn't even checking it but I had been put onto a machine to check my blood pressure. At the end it gave me a big unhappy face with giant red letters 'OVER-WEIGHT / Pre-Obese'.

I wouldn't say I'm unhealthy, walk at least 12km a day, but the message really got to me.

I made a few diet changes along with some intermittent fasting and down to 21.9 now. :mushroom2:

Okay this again..

Bmi is a silly metric to gauge health.  Im not tall and have a lot of muscle stacked on my frame so the numbers suggest that Im "obese" because I am very dense and heavy for my height.  I run 20 miles a week and am otherwise a very physically active person.  Ive been an athlete for most of my life.  I dont quite have the washboard abs like I once did, but I for sure wouldnt say Im fat either.

I was a personal trainer for some years and that job got frustrating.  Not because I wasnt good at it--i was-- but because people have unrealistic expectations of what their body can look like.  Men all think they can have a six pack while women tend to pine for something even more unrealistic.

Its tragic.  Genetically speaking, our bodies want to be of a certain shape and size.  Even in peak fitness, some bodies just carry more fat than others.  Some peoples frames are just bulkier than others.  I remember telling one client "My dude if you get any thinner your head is going to look too big on your body.". I felt bad for him.  He was by all rights, much stronger than I have ever been.  He had worked his ass literally off and was still comparing himself to men who couldnt move even a third the weight he could.

Fat isnt bad.  Its there for a reason.  I went into the hospital in an emergency at 165lbs and came out 20 days later at 130lbs.  If i hadnt had fat on my body, I might not have made it.  Its there for a reason, my friends.

Its not about what your body looks like, its about what it can do.  Vo2 max is a more important metric of fitness to me.  Pumping oxygen in, and lactic acid out is the functionality that makes incredible shit happen.  Its how races are won, mountains are climbed, fights are won.  Range and flexibility is more important than physique.  Strength is more important than power and mass.  Ive always had a good time at parties winning arm wrestling matches with guys that are much more massive than I am because strength training is specific and cumulative.

I always tried to shift my clients' perspective this way.  In my experiece, when you achieve peak fitness in measurable metrics, youll be happy with how you look also--even if that doesnt include abs.

You're not getting enough protein is likely the issue.  Vegetarian and vegan it's common.  Make sure to have enough variety to cover all 9 essential amino acid.  Particularly leucine which is less common in plants and critical for muscle growth and maintenance.  Try soybeans and pumpkin seeds.  Supplement with Pea protein powder.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad i clicked on this thread!

Now I know what happened! I stopped eating chicken and that is about the time my weigh plummeted,  come to think of it.

I originally ate no red meat or pork, but I still ate chicken and fish. Now I'm just down to fish.

I'm going to go buy what you suggested and see if I can get back to my 150  :bananadance:

My thought as well, you likely need more protein in your diet.  How old are ya? Some people's metabolism slows down in their 20s

I eat a Morningstar sausage patty with 3 eggs everyday for breakfast.  It's a wheat based meat product.  I'm not vegetarian, I just like their sausage better than the real deal.  I eat about as much as I can but I'm so active I slowly lost a little fat and gained some muscle last year.  I only get weighed when at the doc though so who knows

Mushrooms are high in protein too right?

I'm in my mid 40's and mine is still as it was when I was a kid for some reason.

I'm really active too,  bike riding,  hiking,  fishing, so that is why I'm so lean too,  I reckon.

I eat mushrooms, but not enough. They contain protein too, so I need to eat more  :mushroom2:

Oh yeah, those morning star patties are good!

Huh, I'm a little surprised.  I guessed you younger but I'm in my late forties and must still have a pretty good metabolism too

For real though, 1 MS sausage patty, fried in olive oil with 3 eggs is a lot of healthy energy.  You'll probably slowly build muscle being active like you are

Same here. Most of my life people guessed me to be 10 years younger.  It was annoying when I was 25, but not so much now

Sometimes I switch it up and make an omelette, and I forgot to mention the 2 pcs of strawberry jelly toast and glass of grapefruit juice

Ya… 😅

I eat well and exercise, I’m not unhealthy.
I’ve just always been like this.
But I could stand to get some muscle back.
Started eating meat years back and that helped.

My current BMI is 25. I think it's a bunch of bunk though. 1800s napkin calculations. Why would a healthy weight across all different heights be proportional to the square of the height? It's ok as a rough indicator though

We've had GMOs for 40 years. Thinking food is anything like nature intended anymore is naive. Do you really wanna know the amount of pharmaceuticals intended to keep death at bay for GMO-fed animals that they physically can't remove from meat after keeping them alive long enough to fatten them up with GMO-based and GMO-meat-based sludge? Compared to that, pea protein and even soy protein are tame.

BMI is not a good indicator as it doesnt take muscle mass into account , so most lifters or well built people will have a high BMI count (regardless of how much fat they are carrying)
take a photo and look at it, if you look fat you probably are.

Compared to that, pea protein and even soy protein are tame.

29.3

But as everyone has pointed our, the metric means very little to me.

I admit I have some extra cushion that I could lose, but at my height and current body composition, my "healthy" BMI is between 26 and 27.

I also love working out, so I tend to use how I feel and what I can do outside, around the house, in the gym to judge whether I need to adjust something.

My BMI currently sits at 20.6 with body fat well under 10%, probably the best shape I've been in in my life due to consistent daily exercise. Back when I was depressed(before mushrooms) my BMI was 18.3.

According to this calculator my BMI is 22.4, which is right in the middle of "normal," yay.

I have been an avid runner my whole life, and I lift weights on the regular for many years now, so would consider myself to be in prime shape and have some muscle. :whatyougonnado:

This thread...

I'm just over six feet tall and weigh 220lbs and the internet says I am obese. I lift weights and do martial arts.

I guess they don't keep me as fit as I thought they did.

When I look at myself in the mirror, I see that I have quite a bit of belly fat.  My upper arms are very flabby, as well.

I have been eating like complete shit since around Thanksgiving and I am surprised I haven't gained. BUT I am aware I will if I don't stop.
I think getting in the habit of crap eating is sometimes hard for me to get out of.
I enjoy it.
I have a friend that is built like the woman in the picture. She competes and always wins and makes an obscene amount of money from her Only fans.
Her body type is a fetish.. is fetish the right word? IDK but she makes a LOT of money from men who are into it. She is an amazing person, faithful wife, mother, sweetheart.
Most disciplined person I have ever met in my life.

I made another awesome breakfast today.  Weekends are for doing it up as if I'm on vacation or something.
Today's menu: a 4 egg folded omelette with onion, jalapenos, and bacon bits cooked inside, with sour cream, chili, and cheese on top plus 4 slices of ham, strawberry toast, grapefruit juice and a nice strong cup of joe

A lot. Buy organic if you can. Preferably agroecological organic on the social and solidarity economy market.

Reverse eating. (Not like South Park.)

I seem to be able to eat all day long, and, so long as I do not eat after dark, get more trim.
