Lets turn this into an SEQ Season thread (or make one) for the HYPE!

2022 was my last time on the official VIC season page and I miss it already.

Cub/Pan hunting seems so much more complicated than sub hunting.

In the southern states all you need is the weather and a car to get you to the public land (eg ferny eucalypt forest) for the habitat. Once you are there just about every square metre of earth could have a sub patch in it and the beauty is you mightnt see another soul. Meaning either you strike out youve had a beautiful bush walk or youre up to nuts in fungUS without the self-consciousness.

Whereas with pans and cubs theres the extra factors of manure + private land anxiety to negotiate.

Aren't there huge cattle fields there? Does anyone care if you walk on them?

I reckon we can get some good pics going on this thread to showcase some of the beautiful blues we find in Australia 😁
I'd sometimes love to swap the anxiety of being in open cow paddocks for wet forests... never even seen a sub. Despite my advice to ask farmers first ( still preferable) there are some massive areas with no houses in site and it's quite nerve wracking at times to slip through fences and walk around. Sadly there are a lot of thieves in my area and some landowners can get pretty upset if they spot people walking around on their property.
Either way it's raining where I am and I can't wait to get out in the next few days.🤞
Happy and safe Shrooming wherever you hunt!!

What are they stealing in the fields? Cows?
Well, you won't find cubes or cyans without jumping a fence.

Cattle theft is a well known phenomenon. Farmers are in any case very protective of their live stock.
I don't know about Australia, but in many parts of the US you'll probably risk getting shot at if you
trespass farmlands.

I'd personally refrain from jumping fences, and rather ask for permission. Worst thing you'll get is a 'no'.

Never had a problem anywhere. I don't think many Scandinavian farmers care but I'd definetely ask for permission in the US! I thought Australia was a little more relaxed. Guess not.
Here no one gives a flying where you go. It's also impossible to know what land belongs to who. They might stop and have a laugh at the mentally ill foreigner who picks poisonous mushrooms out of buffalo shit

Scandinavian countries are the envy of many of us for many reasons.

You aren't likely to get shot in Oz but still. Do unto others right?

Anyway bring on the hoards of cubs and pans!

I agree.let's try and resurrect the SEQ hunting threads to what they were about 10 years ago-loads of people posting back then but it all seems to have quietened down in here since I was a regular member last.

We got a hell of a lot of rain in the North Brisbane area and now it's stinking hot so they'll be out in force for sure.Good luck.

In certain areas they do..A lot of pot gets grown in the hills and surrounding land which in turn leads to some angry farmer's on bikes coming up to you to say hello.

Aye, do unto others. If you have 50.000.000km² of land I don't think you'd care much if someone walked on it. You'd probably get really annoyed if dozens of people came and asked you for permission every Sunday morning
People walk on my land(it's not 50.000.000km²) all the time and I don't see why not. I don't want them to bother me with silly questions either. In Scandinavia walking trails through fields are not uncommon. You'd either open and close the gate ir use the steps over the fence next to it. You're not supposed to go asking. Other fields are in forests or mountains and yet others far away from any house. What would you do? Go from door to door to figure out who owns what land?
I understand there are places and situations where asking for permission would be preferable but I rather go to one of those spots where I don't have to and go on picking my mushrooms in peace. Plenty of those.
I've never had a problem, not met one angry farmer as of yet. And I've met many farmers.

Not sure about hoards of pans and cubes, it's getting a little cold, but it's been very misty for a couple of days, so I've got my hopes up! I'll get to it in a day or two. Won't be many cubes, there never are. But the pans can pop up in huge numbers! Fingers crossed.

Just checking how did you go with your search? Any luck? I’m on sunny coast and really interested to start foraging In my area. I’m waiting for my “mushrooms of SEQ“ book to arrive in the mail because I’m only new at this and need to research more before I start hunting. Ultimately, I would really love to find someone experienced to give me some tips but I don’t really know how to get my foot in the door.

Do tonnes of research, identify the toxic guys especially. But although there's probably heaps of cool little native psilocybin containing shrooms to be found your going to recognise the 2 main actives worth hunting easily. Psilocybe cubensis ( goldtop), and panaeolus cyanescence (blue meanies) are our main Qld species.
If your not 100% certain DO NOT CONSUME.
3-4 days of decent rain usually gets things happening for a week or so depending on where you are.
Enjoy your time looking for them and take photos and good luck.

Not too cold in Queensland, found a nice hillside of scattered pans👍😁

There are definitely still a lot of people in SEQ foraging for these mushrooms.

The community is probably bigger than ever before, but more is posted to facebook groups than anywhere else.

Cheers. Doing a lot of research and have read my new ‘Shrooms of SEQ’ book front to back. Will not ingest anything that I don’t have an accurate read on, through spore prints, Id’s etc.

Definitely getting humid and found some good spots already.. I can almost taste it.. :sun:

I haven't ventured out during this season but from all reports there are some beauties out there.
Cow shit and medium length grass will see you bag out in no time.Goodluck
