Maybe try a thin top layer after you harvest that tray. I’ve found that it gets the myc going again after harvest. Sometimes if it’s matted really bad I’ve used a fork to scratch up the myc (gently) before adding the layer. This might be unnecessary or it may work out great but in my humble opinion I think it’s worth trying. It might help fix the matting issue on the surface.

I was wondering about a new casing layer. Yeah I’m hearing ya maybe worth a shot but I’ve heard conflicting things about the raking, theres not much showing it’s beneficial and there’s so many knots I don’t want to bugger them.

Yeah, no. Don't scrape it with a fork. I don't have an answer for you as far as a new casing layer, but I can tell you that forking it is a bad idea.

I’m sure this is getting annoying but it’s turned into a log for me to look back on when I’m no longer a noob.
I got 10g dried from the first flush pretty shit but better than nothing considering what I’ve learnt.

I floated the “tushies” and accidentally broke the thing I’ve got 3 other projects going awesome so I thought fuck it experiment time. I cut the sub into 4 pieces, 3 pieces went into an EZ Dial as cakes in the following set up. If it works I want to see if any will perform better.
1st is a control rolled in vermiculite only. 2nd I cut the matted side off and rolled. 3rd I cut both large sides to start new and rolled.

The 4th one (along with cut stuff) grated and put into new sub and back into the infamous boom box with some odd mods.

Who knows what will happen.
In other news cakes are performing well but I won’t do them again, yields are not what I’m looking for. Although it was a great learning curve.

New EZ dial mono is going great! Pins everywhere can’t see them all it the pic but more turning up daily. It seems getting the field capacity right is more important than I gave it credit.

Couldn’t done it without all your help, so thank you! Special shout out to Bigfoot for sticking around for a noob, cheers mate.
Next up TW & PE mono’s I know from Bigfoot casing is important for PE, any advice/tricks?

What’s up guys,
Got some updates.
First the experiment, the three cakes that I did from the tushies have just kept on producing constantly no dunking needed just a light misting here and there.
Picture shows half way through harvesting (got excited) all up the cakes have produced 4oz wet and are still going strong, pins everywhere.

And the tushie tub has just started producing knots, primordia and a few pins, casing layer seems to have done it justice and finally managed to dial it in properly, I was maybe a bit hard on it initially.

In other news I have some Tidalwave coming in strong knots and some primordia are coming in and had very even colonisation, again I think the casing did us proud here, also compressing it makes a big difference (thanks for the tips)

The PE is coming along ok but I’m not sure the rhizo growth is very aggressive and although it went fast to start off, it’s slowed a bit and reaching for the skies (no knots yet). Is it looking ok?

Anyway couldn’t have got this far without the help guys appreciate it. I’ll keep posting updates if you’re happy to see them.
Big shout out to Bigfoot, Way & Beef (from another post)
Cheers cuuuuunnnntzzzzz!

Cool pics!
I really dig your rectangular cakes. Far out!
Those fruits look picture-perfect too! Wow.

Hey thanks LC,
A little experiment went a long way, the little mono I had didn’t work out in the tub it was in so I thought WTF surface area should prevail. Not huge quantities from cakes but otherwise would have just chucked it out.
Cheers mate.

Well I never thought a 1/4 of mini mono grated up and re purposed would turn into anything but, I’m surprised the pinset has just started coming in and is pretty thick (picture doesn’t do I justice). It has about a half inch casing on it and I can see water droplets on the myc popping through. My question is should I mist if it’s producing condensation on the sides constantly? Does it look dry?

Very happy with the outcome so far.
Cheers.

Alright guys update time, pretty much only cause I’m excited so my “tushie tub” is going ok a few pins and some larger fruits but I think it’s coming to an end. But hey happy to have got what I did.

In other news the B+ mono (2nd ever) i did is no more. 50% of the second flush unfortunately aborted apart from one monster that is my PB so far I think it would have been bigger but it fell over, which I weirdly had a dream about and woke to find it was true.

The TW (3rd mono ever) is exploding and is producing the heaviest pin set I’ve ever achieved.

Although, I believe you have to learn something from all you do so here it is, on the next one I’m going to use a coco coir only casing as it seems (shown in the pictures) that the shit verm I have is blocking some potential pins, dead spots if you will.
Oh and the rectangular cakes are still producing steadily, what freaks.
I seriously couldn’t have got here with you guys, so thanks heaps.

Update time guys,
So I finished all B+ tubs up cakes, rectangle cakes and the tushie tub. Had the intention of dispersing it on a friends cattle farm (with permission of course)so put it all in a tub and left it. To mats surprise it has continued to grow and some monsters at that averaging 35g plus. Why does it keep going 🤯

In other news my first TW was shit, sparse, thin & hollow stems but hey still got 10g dry and they pack a punch.

The second flush never came in unfortunately, I think due to the fact that the sub was so thin and I overcompensated and drowned the poor thing. Some new weird looking pins have started but no high hopes.

My second lot of TW is looking good no canopy yet (again another thin sub, whoops) stems are thin but very dense and surface conditions are looking good.

My PE came out ok, again early batches I did thin subs (fucked if I know why). Anyway very dense stems and kind of weird looking long fellas.

New ones coming in are TW, B+ & PE (all thick subs) from agar to millet with a Coir/verm sub, hopefully see a difference.

Hoping you guys can help with something. I’m using EZ dial tubs (some, as you can see are shallow which I won’t be using anymore) but I keep get fuzzy feet and skinnier fruits. I have put a fan on real slow in the room they’re in but still the same, fruits are getting denser but still thin. Is this because of FAE or just a thin sub?
Thanks legends! Fucking enjoying this new hobby.
