Are these pine tree seeds ready
    #28610245 - 01/05/24 08:22 AM (23 days, 9 hours ago)

I put them on a wet towel and kept them wet and in an open bag. Started them 11/24/23
I can't tell if they are activating or not, should I move them into something? Or wait a month or two

Do they not need to be cold stratified first?

I did not realize I need to cold stratify the seeds. I will put them in the fridge. Thank you, Towns.

Are those seeds? They look like tips. There’s a lot of different pines and different ones need different triggers to get them to germinate.

The seeds are in the fridge of my garage, they froze last night. So they got under 0°C.

Could I put them in a 40% coco coir, 20% verm, 40% cow manure substrate? Is that a reasonable nute level for trees?

I’d just use a peat or coir and perlite substrate until they sprout. A lot of tree seeds have all the nutes they need for awhile, and rich substrates could actually eat them.
Cold stratification typically takes a month or more. There are many pines that don’t need cold stratification, and some need fire or something similar to get them ready to germinate.
Do you know what species of pine they are?
And how did you harvest the seeds?

This was it. I plucked what I thought was the seeds off the tree.
I looked around the base but didn't see any cones. Uncertain if it has cones.
Maybe it does, I could go back.

Looks like a blue spruce. Pretty common landscape tree. The seeds would come from inside the cone. I think you just have tips/buds.

I went back, these are the only thing it grew. Unless someone else took the cones these are all that was on it.

Sorry man, I’m not a hundred percent certain what those parts are, either male flowers, or very immature cones/female flowers that haven’t been pollinated yet, but they are not seed cones. It’s is a spruce of some kind, not a pine. Squirrels will collect spruce cones and cache them, mayyyyyybe that’s why your not finding any mature cones.
This is a pretty good description of blue spruce.

Atleast we identified it. There may be more cones in... 2 years. Maybe I can just ask around for more cool seeds here. My oak and Maple seeds look like what I expect. I captured primordial cones with no seeds.

Just plant whole cones ideally like a bunch of them in one hole. You want the ones that are sitting under the tree not picked off the tree.  They have to sit for a good while to be viable

If you want cool conifer seeds go to local landscape supply and look on the ground
