Marasmius oreades...

Here is the Fairy ring mushroom, or Marasmius oreades growing in my front yard as it usually does all summer:
<- Notice the shorter grass, suggesting the mushrooms are stealing nutrients...
<-Gill shot
<- Collection of specimens
<- Closeup of the stalk appearance...
<- This is why I have been waiting for them to pop up, hopefully I will be able to move them to my back yard at least. I sometimes wonder how many people mow their lawn blowing these mushrooms all over without even knowing they are there. Easily overlooked in the grass, they can be quite tasty, although the stem is very tough and best not used. I am planning on at least attempting to cultivate this species, as cultivated mushrooms are so much better than wild ones IMO. At least they are fresh, and bug free... Thats it for now, I will be posting more finds of wild edibles when we get more rain. I hope you enjoy them. Perhaps some of you will find it a bit more interesting than the traditional cubensis or pan ID request...

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
