Pissed. I have not opened this bag of mushrooms in 42 days and now I found a few bugs. It safe to consume the other sealed bag?

So I just grabbed my fully sealed expensive jar, loaded with silica packs. I had two separate sealed ziplock bags.

Well I open my big one and some of the mushies feel soft... Almost like cotton when they were cracker dry before. Then I see two bugs in there moving around. So ig I'm going to ditch that bag. If it wasn't for the soft feeling mushies in the bag I probably would have used them since I'm not afraid of bugs. I'm assuming it has been putting saliva or stomach enzymes in the mushies.

So I grab the other sealed bag with only a little in there and that one seems entirely fine.

Would you still dose from the bag in which the mushrooms still feel normal and I don't see any bugs?

They were in the same sealed container, just in separate zips.

What you think? I was really looking forward to going to space tonight. I'm annoyed too because I'm about 99% sure even the bag with bugs would be safe for consumption but I just can't trust it.

They were a little smaller than a matchstick head and black.

the dry shrooms in the sealed bag should be good.
enjoy them,
even if a bug got in there, the dryness would prevent decomposition and egg laying.

the soft shrooms with little black beetles somehow got moisture in it and is most likely spoiled - probably with larvae still in there.
not a great idea to try them
but if it is an ounce or more I would consider a psilocybin extraction attempt.

It's just so strange man. I have mild OCD. Not in the funny kitchy way lol. Like actual OCD I clean my hands and dry them hardcore before dealing with them everytime. Last time I took a dose was a week before Thanksgiving. There was no bugs at all when I did them then and everything was thoroughly inspected when I bought them 3 months or so ago.

These things have been stored with silica packs, in a fancy mason jar with clasp and rubber seals. They are then wrapped in 3 grocery bags inside of the jar.

How tf could they not be in there and then get in there? Could they already have had the eggs or something and maybe by some freakish chance I got a teeny drop of water or something in it well dealing with them and somehow that allowed eggs to hatch or what? I am not an entomologist but have a fairly decent understanding of bugs since as a kid I really liked them.

I mean it just makes absolutely no sense. Plus, the red flags popped up upon touching one of the stems without a cap and it was like unravelled and the consistency of a shredded cotton ball. When I touched them last they were all cracker dry.

The other bag sitting right on top of them has no soft unraveled ones. I guess my paranoia stemmed from wondering if maybe somehow the black bugs had somehow squeezed their dumbass pass the ziplock into that one? Probably not possible when I saw none well thoughly inspecting?

My real worry is eating them and somehow getting sick but that is probably impossible? Just worried about bacteria but they smell fine and look fine. Tbh, even if it's gross I don't care about eating a bug lol just don't want to end up on monsters inside of me (the show about parasites)

Thanks for replying
Hoping to hear back from ya

I had a mason jar of stuff do the same thing (minus the bugs.. that sounds sad.. sorry.) They were dried, I had some, come back later, no longer dry. Turned out the lid was slightly bent on one spot, and if it wasn't placed *just* right, it didn't seal correctly. So, if you're looking for a possible explanation, the jar didn't seal correctly. Maybe a corner of the bags got caught in the seal so it didn't close right, maybe something else. And, one of the ziplock bags wasn't terribly secure either, leading to one bag getting hydrated, the other not. I wouldn't trust ziplock bags to stay airtight anyways. Now that it's happened, it going to be impossible to know for sure.
As for the bugs, idk, bugs be bugs. They get into stuff. Heck, some bugs will even chew through plastic to get to stuff. I do think it makes sense you found bugs in the "opened" (non-airtight) bag that got rehydrated, and not the other bag. Other bag is probably a bug-free zone. I would guess the bugs got in the same way the water did.

Tbh, it's probably fine to eat both bags, healthwise (though, I am not a doctor). I can't think of any bugs that would be a) harmful to ingest and also b) eats plant(fungi)-matter. The harmful ones are usually the parasites that eat people-matter.

Boil them for a couple minutes and make a tea. You’ll kill off anything in there any you can filter out anything else.
