Flying to school-work etc.. in a Paraglider... Legal?
    #2860532 - 07/06/04 03:20 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Hey, I was wondering about some legalities regarding an aircraft called a paraglider.  For those of you who dont know what these are, its basically a prachachute that has a little car-harness strung to the bottom of it and with a huge engine-fan connected to the back.  They go about 35 MPH and are only a few grand new.  Here are some pics:

So, heres my question:  Can these things be flown anywhere?  I mean of course I cant go in resticted airspace or anything but would it be unlawful for me to go to school and work in one of these things?  You dont need a runway or anything to land-takeoff and you dont even need a license so why would I be able to just fly to a party or down the beach throwin out water baloons  I can even go shroom hunting...Like swoop down in a cow field, grab a few shrooms and fly away!  :drumming:  :penis: .  I am bidding on a new one right now on Ebay and excited to give this thing a wirl.  Please tell me anything else you might know about one of these things.

Thanks, SillyWilly

hmm....according to the things Ive read they are quite easy to learn how to fly. How did these 2 people die?..... unlike other aircraft, if these is a malfunction in the engine or you just run out of gas, the parachute will just gradually float you down to the ground. Im not planning on doing any kind of extreme activity and goin up thousand of feet. I just think it would be cool to fly around. I apprectiate the warning but you dont gotta crash the party.

Unexpected wind gust.... They don't know the air/weather up there.... People jump into shit all the time and don't know what they are doing, just thought I'd give the heads up...

Not alot winds goes crazy where I'm from, one guy who'd been flying 10 years here and there in one of those decided to go up one late July day.. A strong wind came and smashed him into the ground right in front of our face's... this is the only reason I know about the fucking things, we where out throwing a party in a field and this guy came, mashed himself to burger and burnt right into a juicy treat in front of our eyes. Just thought I'd let you know, glad you caught my angst in that first post, I was out to push buttons.

So there are sudden gusts of wind that can shot you to the ground? Hmmm, thats interesting. Im not planning on flying as high as the people you see in the pictures. Just maybe a few hundred feet.

i saw on 'tactical to practical' your not allowed to fly things like that over populated areas. They did a special on a show on a little helicopter you order on the internet and put together at home.

Ya..thats called a gryrocopter....
Pretty unsafe casue when this engine you assembled gose out, you come crashing down. The paraglider on the other hand didnt appear to be as sketchy. Can this windshear you speak of take down regular parachuters too? All the paraglider sites suggest you can learn how to fly within a weeks time. I know there are risks but do you really think this windshear presents too much of a danger to even consider flyin one of these things.
