    #2860523 - 07/06/04 03:13 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Sorry for inconviencing anyone like i did last time i tried for an ID.I really need to find out what these are though and have no other way to find out.I have no spore print just a picture.I couldnt get a spore print cause the caps were ripped up too much,so please bare with me or just ignore it.They came from a cow pasture, and were growing on a spot where there had been alot of dung but it wasnt fresh. There was many of them growing in one big 6x6ft spot.Thats all the info i have other than what you can see in the picture, thanks.

If you want an accurate ID, you need a spore print, simple as that. You can't ignore that. Is it because you're anxious to eat these things or what? if so, it's not worth going to the hospital over. If the caps are too fucked up to take a print, you need to practice better storage while you are out there collecting. Plus! that picture is not exactly a great one, so if you want people to take a stab at ID'ing those just by the picture, you need better quality pictures. Gill shots as well, where they connect to the stem. Just trash those and get some more, it's not like those are the only ones around.
happy hunting,
-J

It's really impossible to tell from that picture and the amount of information provided. It looks alot like a Liberty Cap to me but its just not right to identify a mushroom after its picture only (especially if it is this quality ).

Habitat, size, colour, crooked stem, not growing directly in manure - basically everything looks like Psilocybe semilanceata. The problem is that it's not exactly the season. At least here. Where in the world are You?

As it was said above - it would be nice to know more details, spore color being as the most important. Is the stem hollow? Partially hollow? Tightly stuffed? And did it by any chance grow in tall rank grasses (sedge etc.), yes - and what's the weather been like during the last week (humidity/temp). More/better pictures would be nice

I'm Addressing a SERIOUS problem here. Not to flame you individually, but the next person that asks for an ID without at least a LITTLE of the information REQUIRED REQUIRED REQUIRED to make a POSITIVE ID, I will [edit for content: be verry angry and make my point in a nonthreatening manner]. Post the information REQUIRED REQUIRED REQUIRED to give a POSITIVE ID, and i`ll tell you what I have but i'm not interested in helping anyone who doesn't do the minimum
-Rx

As MadSeasonAbove said, http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23917

Or at least say the minimums, Gill color, Apparent Blueing?... ... ...Groups or Singles they are growing?.. give us ANYTHING?

they were growing in groups,i will practice better storage, they had a blue/black bruising, more black. I cant take pictures because my friend dried them for me in case they were good, and no im not in a hurry to eat them,i just wanted to find out what they are.I cant remember the gill color exactly.Theyre was very tall grass around them and they were growing on and around a spot where old cow dung was.I cant go get more right now cause it was at a farm in another part of alabama. It had been very humid when i picked these, and i picked them at about noon. The ground was very damp.I cant remember the gill color.A while after i picked them though the cap had a purple color around the edge and in the center if that is any help.Tanks.

You seem very polite. Someone as courteous as you is always welcome here at the shroomery! Good luck in your future forays for the elusive mushrooms and I hope you make the shroomery your second home in the meantime to learn as much as possible.

I wish I could help you ID this beautie but I don't have the experience. I'm sure someone familiar with it will visit within a few hours though. I CAN tell ya that liberty caps or psilocybe semilanceata aren't usually found in alabama, I used to live there.

sorry, I really don't think that's an active unless its a weilli.

I apologize for any noobs who may seem a bit rude to the visitors.

Thanks, this is the first time someone hasnt warned me about the rules,or threatened to "flame" me,and by the way when you threaten to "flame" someone in my opinion it just kinda makes me laugh. We are all supposed to be people on here helping each other or just discussing mushrooms, and i dont think it scares anyone when you threaten to flame them lol.Appreciate the compliment and thanks for your help.

Right on, it might be late tonite before he comes on but one of the mods here is familiar with weilli's. if that's what it is, he may be able to help you ID it.

Like the others said, a spore print will be necessary. Without one, I don't think anyone would be able to identify that. From the general appearance and description Conocybe, Panaeolina, Coprinus, Panaeolus and a few others are all possibilities for the genus. It's pretty definitely not a psilocybe and not likely to be an active species.

Psilocybe weilii is the correct spelling for the species you're searching for.
