I think apera is supposed to be good. The cheapest model is only 50 bucks. That's what I plan on getting if my cheapo one goes bad.

I don’t remember how much it was but I got a decent one made by apera that has a case and three calibration fluids and it’s been good for a couple years now.
I ended up grabbing one with the 3 calibration solutions and cleaning kit... if I can get a couple years out of mine I'll be happy

So, I got my male for my breeding project!
That being said, what is the best way to store his pollen for later use, and how long can I expect it to last?
I wont be able to use it for a few months, so I'm hoping that it will still be viable when the time comes.
Thanks!

You should put it out on a piece of paper in a dry and draft free room for 2 days, then you should gather the pollen into an airtight container, something like an eppendorf tube works well. Then you stick that eppendorf tube into a thermos bottle. That thermos bottle goes into your freezer. The thermos bottle is to shield the eppendorf tube from the fluctuations that occur whenever you go into your freezer, which will ruin your pollen.
If you store it this way it should be good for at least 3 months at -20°C when properly dried, and without any extra measures.
Best practice is whenever you need to add a vial or take out one, you should do it very quickly, and if possible without putting it back. So you are best off dividing your pollen in however many portions you need and label them properly so you can pick out the right strain quickly.
There are short height wide-mouth thermos bottles available online, those are the type that I find easiest to work with.

Just exactly what I needed to know Mr Liz Wiz!
I love you guys, so dang helpful, not to mention fast too
All that I need now is a thermos, and I'm good to go!
Thanks a bundle!

I know right. I thought that it lasted a lot longer like a year or so. I'm hoping that mine will still be good when the time comes to utilize it.
I was going to just let mine continue to flower, but It's just no practical for me to grow indoors currently.

At 2 years, some pollen of cannabis or hemp will still germinate. But that's a low percentage viability at a perfect storage at 0°F (-18°C)
Home storage in a conventional freezer that you also use for your groceries and whatnot.. Don't expect too much after a year.
That's why I store my pollen unadultered. It's fine to dilute if you would use it immediately, but the longer time has passed between storage and use, and the more fluctuations from perfect have been present, the lower the percentage of viable pollen, so basically time dilutes it faster than I'd like even when trying to slow it.
Additionally, fathers need to be kept at a minimum of 20 hours of light a day in order to not induce flowering. They don't need high strength light though.
Not being able to keep these parameters, is of course an easy way to completely fuck up the bud grow next to your father veg room because of a few missed male flowers.

I am still picking out dead gnats from inside some of my buds. Gross... i'm sure i've smoked a couple.... POP
I have a big ovoid mushroom patch nearby too, the larva might be hanging out in that or something.
I bought some of the BT stuff that kills gnats and mosquitos. I am going to spray my gardens, mushroom patch, yard, and give some to my neighbors who have standing water after it rain next spring.

Towns77 said: So, once males start to flower, there is no way to reverse it?
I cannot find anywhere where I can get this question answered.
Revegging after a male has entered flowering is harder to do than with females.
One strain might be able to be revegged after a harvest has been completed, while another will have a lot of trouble being revegged past week 6 flower. With females however, it's usually easily accomplished as long as they haven't been in flower more than 4 weeks. With males, there's a very high chance they'll just give up and die so revegging after they have been used for pollen might be a hard one.
Best if you need it twice is to just have 2 cuttings (or take a cutting of a cutting) and take one into flowering while keeping the other one in veg.
So can you do it? It may work, but it's not a safe route to the destination you're looking for. It's kind of like throwing a paper plane in the direction you wanna go in.

I just trimmed some big fan leaves and it looks like some of the new growth got wind damage.
I moved the fans further away a few days ago.

I think you might of over fed or been watering too often maybe? See the leaves curling up…
Normally plants like being blown around a bit…

I haven't fertilized yet but it's possible I've been over watering.
They're 10 gallon pots and last water I gave each 1 gallon.
I should back off then and I'll wait till they dry completely before the next water.
Edit: I waited a week after the last water before watering again.

It’s probably not over watered then. Idk, they don’t look to bad. What kind of soil r you in? Might be time to lightly feed a bit…
Try bottom watering for a few times kinda every few days Those are some huge pots…and I think the plants are trying to grow their roots and see they got plenty of room.
How long are you planning on vegging those for?

The plants have grown quite a bit since I’ve last seen them, probably in early December.. The one on the left is the robust plant, hopefully grows into another beshemoth. Saw a few broken branches on that one. It’s in an enclosed space so my only guess would be wind. Either way, both that plant & the old struggler have each broken through the ceiling as of now.

The other plant is also growing well in its own bed..
Going to do some pruning & pre-flower checks once the sun goes down a little. It’s far too hot at the moment.

If you watered a gallon to both, you overwatered. Don't feed a gallon of water to a small plant. How is that small plant going to get a gallon processed in a week? Even half a gallon would have been too much. A quart would have been plenty. How much do you think those girls sweat in a week? Remember, they ain't dripping with sweat from working out, and they don't need to pee.
edit: If given the choice, watering twice a week with less always gets my vote.
Happy new years to all!
I think I should put in a few more auto's but I'm also pretty sure that's going to give me space problems down the line.

I'm planning to LST the crap out of them and possibly top them.
I was going to go by height to determine when to flip to flower.
What I understand is that I can expect double to triple increase in height after the flip to 12/12. I'm working with an 8 foot grow tent and I gotta leave space for the LED so I suppose 2 feet high would be playing it safe with the pot included.
That would mean I will be flowering sooner than later. The thing is that I started 2 Super Silver Haze about a month later and I'm trying to wait for those to catch up.
